One for Sir Dickey of D I think...
Has anyone got photos of a tug (or any boat I guess) that was converted from steam to diesel?
I'm interested in external changes especially the funnel modifications.
Thanks,
Martin. :-)

Any late era clyde puffer would be a good example (bet that does'nt help though) :-)

Try looking for photos of Mountfleets Cruiser which was a Steam to Diesel conversion

Hi Martin,
How about Kingarth, she had a large upright funnel as a steamer. Also there are some photo's of ex steam TID's about. The Lifeline is Kingarths sister ship as a steamer.

Hi Martin,
I meant dispenser not lifeline. Also here is the pic of Kingarth. I think you will find a conversion of a TID in one of the old files in the towing section I seam to remember it, with a thread that I made some comments on.

Is your idea to build the steam version and the diesel conversion for comparison as a project? That would be really interesting.

Hi Martin
The tug cruiser (model by Mountfleet) was converted to diesel and renamed Ardneil
She was in service on the Mersey for a number of years owned by Carmet Towing
