Hi guys this is my ship I am on Beach Detachment in Norfolk Va sending parts and aid supplies to the ship. these were a few weeks before they left for haiti.

Hi Hazegray
By chance do you know if your ship had the bulbos bow added to her while you were in drydock for overall work. I have also noticed that the CIWS are missing in the few photos that I have seen since she came out of drydock both here and on the Navy site. I just whish that I had more info on the new mast for my model of the Nimitz CVN.

for security reasons I wont talk about anything done below the water line. The ship has a facebook page and there are tons of pics of the ship up on it probably more than enough info for your mast. You guys need to understand these ships change weekly just because its not there in a photo doesnt mean its not there now or never was there. You can only build a naval model that is accurate to a certain time frame if its still active. I am sorry I cant help you out more but I have to protect my guys on the ship first.

Sounds like she has a bulbous bow then!
Qiuite right about depicting the ship as a model though. Naval vessels are a movable feast when it comes to trying to capture them at a specific moment in time.

not really I dont remember what they did to the bow and even if I did know if it had one or not I wouldnt put out the info

Actually, having a quick browse on the web suggests that the ship wasn't fitted with a bulbous bow although the newer ships of the class were designed with it. Retrofitting something like that would be a very major job as the basic stucture of the ship would be affected, probably not worth the cost in terms of likely benefits.

What the bulbos bow does for tye Nimtiz class is first it helps keep the bow of the ship in an more upward angle for luanching of aircraft it has also been told to me that the ship speed does improve slighly for the amount of power that is being used. As for the amount of time that it would take to do this while the ship is in drydock for it's overall is nothing.

I agree it would certainly do both of those but you can't just stick it on the front like a false nose as there would be a lot of stress in that area. You would have to rebuild the forefoot of the ship I would think. Not impossible but quite expensive for the benefit gained.
