Title: Suitable Guns for LCT 6 in Dec 2010 Modelboats
Post by: Damien on January 30, 2010, 12:01:38 pm
Can anyone suggest a source for the 20mm Guns in 1/30 to 1/35 scale Glynn Guest suggests for this model Please ?
I've decided after the SS Noggsund from the August iddue is finished the LCT 6 will be the my next model i'm watching an RC Tank in 1/30th scale in ebay here in Aust, the guns will be my only problem to source.
If no kits are available a scale drawing i coud re-scale would be helpful.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Damien.

Hi.
nautical marine models.co.uk do a single 20mm Oerlikon cannon with pedestal and shield in 1/32 scale. A couple of these should be fine for the LCT, but they are not cheap!

Thanks Richard, you're right about the price they work out at almost $32AUD each plus post, I think they can stay on the shelf.
I have a go at "guesstamating" the size using a 1/30th scale figure as a reference.

Suitable? I know they're not quite the right scale but not too far off in a stand off scale model

There's a 1/35th one from the same site but you'd have to make the housing, breech etc...

Thanks Andy, I've emailed them if the 1/48 scale set come with the resin parts in the photo i'll go with them otherwise i'll go with the larger 1/32 scale which would be more appropriate for the model.

I won the Tank for $16.50AUD on ebay  M4A3 Sherman 1/30 Scale Radio Remote Controlled RC Battle Tank. it seems to be the same as Glynn G used in the original.
Probably a toy that gets swamped by all other radios but will look good in the LCT 6.

I'm waiting on Float a boat to get stock of 1/4 sq spruce (some what hard to get in Melbourne at present) when i get the e-mail that it's in i'll get sime of the wood for the LCT 6 to make the 5 1/2 hour train and scooter trip worthwhile.

I am looking at these replies and wondering why Damien is being directed towards Axis weapons when it is an Allied vessel that he is modelling.

There are plenty of sets of Allied weapons in 1/35 from Tamiya and Italeri, Hasegawa, with .50 cals, etc. However there is a distinct lack of Oerlikon 20mm guns in 1/35th scale, the main aa defence weapon on an LCT 6. There are some out there but they tend to be expensive and quite fragile models. There is this one by Lionroar - http://www.dragonmodelsusa.com/dmlusa/prodd.asp?pid=LNRLB3530

However that is only ther barrell, as it fits the Italeri PT boat.

Sorry if this doesn't help much.

Hi. Thanks to craftysod who gave me the plans and magazine I am also working on the LCT. I had little luck finding the 20mm but got barrel assemble from http://www.modelsforsale.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=439094 as suggested by Andyn and using super glue bottle tops , Milliput and card have made two like this that I think will look reasonable on the finished boat.

Thanks for the replies and information. I've decided to use the plans Longshank posted the link to along with the simple pic's on Glynn's plans to make the guns, having spent more than i wanted buying Italeri #314 1/35th Willlys jeep & trailer, Tamiya 1/35 US Infantry figures, Tamiya 1/35th Fuel drum set and as set of Tamiya 1/35 German tank ammo loading crew to get the ammo boxes the german figures will either have their cloth hats removed with my dremel or i'll shackle them and use them as prisoners.
I did a Google search for what i wanted in 1/35th and found an Aussie online store that is a  modellers treasure trove.

I have rebuilt the superstructure 3 times before finding the new square i bought from a reputable Aussie hobby tool supplier wasn't, it was actually 91.5 degrees resorted to my school tech drawing instruments and finally have it done.
