Title: Madien voyage for HMS hood.
Post by: lifeboatpaul on February 07, 2010, 05:25:51 pm
Had the maiden voyage of my Fleetscale HMS Hood today, all went well but need a rethink on the prop mixer unit to reduce the turning circle.
I bought it of Ebay five weeks ago as a part built model and have been working on it very minute i could find , actually it was finished in four weeks as the pond was frozen over last weekend yes I do have a job and wife though I haven't seen her much for the last four weeks !-god help me if I start another project too soon! (and there will always be another)

As perusual with my models I have fitted may working functions as follows:-
.Action prop mixers for all four motors.
.All three anchors winch up and down.
.Turrets rotate 180 degrees.
.Bulbs fitted in gun barrels to flash when gun sound operates.
.JJC action stations sound unit.
.JJC air attack sound unit.
.Both funnels have smoke units fitted.
.Bell operated by servo to simulate ships telegraph unit.

Very, very nice indeed...not my scene, but it sure looks impressive on the water.

Fantastic model, well done.

How did you do the working anchor winches? I want to make mine work on my current project.

Ian in reply to your question about the sail winch, below is how it is done.
There is one drum/spool with all three anchors wind onto it with pieces of dowel to keep them separated just before they roll on to the drum. It is operated by a standard servo that was taken apart and the potentiometer taken out , wires extended and the notch on the larges cog filled of to allow full rotation . The servo can then operate as a sail winch with no limit on the turns . The servo is pluged in to the RX and operates as any normal channel
There was not enough room in the bow of the Hood to attach the drum of the servo head so I fitted some cogs and chain drive(MFA from SHG) and mounted the servo behind the drum to keep the unit narrow.
