Can someone give me advise on the choice of speed controller for a Graupner 426 motor
and will proberbly use 2 6v 4amp sla batteries for a springer tug %)

Hi Martin
not really its only got Graupner 426  and  nr-1761    9volt on it tried google but no luck
its in a springer hull i bought

I've just been right through the current Graupner Dealer Catalogue and this motor isn't listed any more. Part #1761 is actually now the Schottel Drive.
I think this is an old electric flight motor, although I have no idea how much current it might draw. You will need to measure the current under load at full speed with the model in the water. Once we know that figure then it will be straightforward to suggest a suitable speed controller.
BTW I would hesitate to run it on 12 volts - if it is  an electric-flight motor then it will be very fast, even using the rated maximum 9 volts.
On the whole you'd probably be as well off taking the motor out and fitting a "known" type - there's hundreds of Springers out there and these guys aren't too keen on spending a lot of money on motors and speed controllers!

I fear FLJ has been watching too much Harry Potter.

My springers have 550 motors in them with usualy a Mtronics esc, two 6v 4ah sla's in parallel to keep the power to 6v with the advantage of more endurance. My choice of esc is down to the fact they are fairly waterproof, and in a springer that is a good thing.

mine has a viper 15 amp, 2  6V 4 amp hour sla batteries and a speed 600 motor.

Stick a cheap chinese 100 amp esc from fleabay in it.
they work fine  %)
If it catches fire,just make another,so simple to build

WOULD THIS MOTOR NEED WATERCOOLING ? :-)

i haven't fitted water cooling but would be a good idea as it does get warm, i'm swapping it out for a 540 soon. run times with this set up are in the region of 2 hours or more not timed it, but certainly lasts a morning session on the lake.

Yep, go ahead and water-cool it, easy to do and should cost little.  Plus it looks scale to see the stream coming out the side.   Hollowhorn; is your motor geared or direct ?

These lads know how to power a springer , me i stick whatever 540 size motor i have to hand and a couple of 6v sla's for power and ballast with a 15a esc Mtronics (thats what i had handy) , and for more fun switch over the wiring from 6v to 12v  :o.
As for water cooling thats easy just ship it over the freeboard's  :embarrassed: .
