Title: test pond in the garden

over the last few weeks ive been seriously thinking of building a pond at least 4mtrs x5mtres 0,75 mtr deep in the back garden any one else done anything simular

If it's just a test tank, make a box out of melamine shelving from B&Q, sealed with bath sealant. Should last for ever if you empty it after use.

Beter than the bath because you can fill it brim full and see exactly where you water line is etc.

When you read the thread in the last link   - there's a mention of difficulty in marking the waterline when the vessel is too low (e.g. pool on ground level) alternative marking method is when you've got it where you want it, sprinkle a little talcum powder (my test tank's in the bathroom...) on the water round your hull and leave for two minutes, then lift straight out - waterline is visible...

This is only one point of view but I don't think you should be marking out the waterline from your hull on the water.  You should be marking out your waterline from the plan then ballasting the model to suit.

Marking it out from where it may happen to float could lead to an unstable model for many reasons.

I tend to use it to ballast the model to the water line, rather than marking the water line.

Why not buy(beg, borrow or otherwise acquire)a large fish tank? Something like a 6'x2'x2' should be plenty big enough...then you see in and around the tank.

I had one similar to that in which Bernie Wood and I tested his own designed torpedoes.

One of 'er indoors goldfish was fatally wounded by a direct hit amidships. She was not amused, to say the least... <*< <*< >>:-(

 I have my own personal indoor test pool.Well it's the bath actually which is ideal for me cos if the boat sinks :-))I haven't gat far to swim out to it.I can't swim anyway  so I feel quite safe.
