Title: ww2 Schnellboot / E Boat
Post by: nda3500 on March 01, 2010, 05:13:44 pm
I have just bought myself a fibreglass hull on e bay of a ww2 Schnellboat,    1445 mm  x  215 mm,  that's  57" x  8" for us older chaps,   the postman even managed to deliver it when she was out.     Only one question at the moment and that is which electric motors to use?    I only want to use two motors as I feel that three would be two tricky to line up shaft.

What size props are you going to use?

Hi,
Sounds like the same size hull that i have.Mine came from metcalf mouldings some time back.Previous to that i think hull was produced by Abco.
I installed three 545 motors in mine and used 1.5 inch dia. Rivabo 3 blade props.
Boat runs very well.

I hadn't given the props any thought until now but the plan shows something like 45mm three blade props,  as for the origins of the hull it measures up to Metcalf size hull but inside there is a label "Model Shack" bonded into the fibreglass.

Thats the beast! you should be able to run that with three 545's or bigger, as lots of room to work in, but check who does the fittings for this boat, as i don't  think many do them now, its a 1/24 th scale. good luck!

I used some commercial fittings like Bollards and Fairleads. The remainder scratch built.Crew figures 1/24 scale Preiser Firemen converted to Marine figures.
Calico material used  to represent canvas on railings.
Automotive Primer White used for hull colour.Humbrol paints used for remainder.
All the best.
