Post by: britishnobby on March 05, 2010, 07:24:13 pm
hi all

Has any one started building, have a finished model, or know of a model of any of the post WW2 RN Aircraft carriers, such as Ark Royal, Hermes etc. Preferable the large carriers of the 50s to the 70's, the glory days!! Its just i haven't seen many post war model airraft carriers and thought i would be interesting to see whats out there. Please add any pics or links regarding this subject but they must be post WW2. :-) :-)

thanks for any info.

I`ve got the Hermes hull in 1/96.
I would love to build her in her sixties fit but can`t find Buccaneers or Sea Vixens in 1/96 or at a push 1/100 for love nor money .
I just don`t think I`ve got the skills to make them myself but I`ll give it a go though and see how they turn out,you never know :-))

Hi
I am a new member having just joined a couple of days ago. I am currently scrathbuilding building a 1/96 scale model of HMS Eagle (1940)  which is nearing completion. It measures over 6 ft and  I reckon it will weight in excess of 15 kilos. Still haven't figured how to transport it yet to get it to a suitable pond!!!
I got the pans from the NMM about 10 years ago and have been building it on and off since them .
I am not aware of anyone having a model of this ship but have posted enquiring if anyone has. Also need assistance with having a 4 motor installation. Once I get my head around how to do things on this forum I will uploads some pictures.
Any other info you may want don't hesitate to ask and I will try and assist

It's me again

Forgot to say that I have plans for HMS Ark Royal (1966) which I bought some years ago and managed to get my hands on 1/100th scale models of Buccaneers ( S2 version) from a e.bay dealer in Japan at a reasonable cost. Can't find Scimitars or Sea Vixens yet in that scale but if I can locate any I will let you know.
Suggest you try e.bay Japan as they seem to have quite a few planes in 1/100th scale.
 Hope this helps

What a site this is....fantastic :-)) :-))
I`ve been trying for months to get Buccaneers and Sea Vixens with no success at all yet just a general reply on here gives me the lead I`m looking for.
Thanks for that mate,I really appreciate it,I`ll try ebay Japan ok2
I think I could build a good representation of a Sea Vixen but I could never do a Buccaneer justice.

I had a go at building HMS Centaur a few years ago, using HMS Hermes plans to get the hull shape. Built to 1/144 because of the availability of aircraft kits in that scale. Hull turned out pretty good, but a house move plus work commitments saw the death of that project. Still have 1 x gannet & 1 x buccaneer (vacforms) from Welsh models to build. Some pretty good models at the Yeovilton Air museum of post '45 carriers.

Tamiya do/did a 1/100th Buccaneer S Mk2 and I think you may be able to get one or more from Plastic Pastimes at poole, they do sell on ebay as polarbearskitskats or something like that. It is a very nice model when made up and worth hunting down......Smudge.. ok2

Hi

I'm new to this site but my cousin is scratch building HMS Ark Royal which i served on from the 1961 to 63 commission, she is being built from the original plans he has been building her for two years and should be finished and ready to sail this year 1/128 scale will have working  working radars signaling lamps smoke klaxon also the planes that were on her during that time including the P1127 which was later known as the harrier jet.  I have some photos of her in her present state but i am just trying to fathom out how to upload them to the site.
