Title: KMS L'America any info?
Post by: Klunk on March 16, 2010, 06:00:58 pm
have just bought a second hand yacht off ebay. Its not in bad condition, and it came with a set of plans and instructions. Herein lies the problem, the plans are so old and yellowed that they are next to useless, and all the instructions are in french. On the plus side, I know its frfom a french firm called KMS and the boat is l'america. but that is all, does anyone have any further info??

Never heard of KMS (they don't seem to be still in existence, and I'm guessing not many of their kits got imported into this country) but with a name like "L'America" the subject is probably either the original 1851 America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America_%28yacht%29), or a more recent design from the America's Cup race ("Coupe de l'America" in French).

Would you be able to post some photos/scans of the plans here? Even if they're in poor condition, someone might be able to identify the yacht type.

will do, but I buried it last week while trying to sort the rigging, either that or throw it against a wall¬!!! will dig it out next week and post some up. its a 1960's + design not 1800's!
