Hi all,
May I present my latest project:
It's the ship that took Tintin and his friends on an exploration to find a meteorite that fell in the polar sea. From the comic strip 'The Shooting Star'.

You can find a build report here:

Alltough in dutch, the images speak for themselves.

Beautiful boat! Is it a kit or scratch-built?
-
I've known this vessel for perhaps forty years - and this model is a delight to see. Really well done!

Thanks for the compliments.
@kno3: It's scratch built, even the plans are self drawn. The ship never appeared the same way in the story, Hergé did not use an existing vessel or scale model as inspiration, so with lots of research I had to redraw the ship before I could build the model.

Very nice. I like the vessel and the work is excellent. Looks like one of the kit producers should take it up.

Wonderful model A!H.... and that also led to a pleasant stroll around the Tintin web pages!

That's a very nice compliment John but I think mr. Nick Rodwell would be very hard to get around . . .

Wow, she's beautiful :-))

yes, very interesting boat too, inspired me for a new 3d project I might start on sometime soon.
-
A stunning model, I imagine you're very proud.
Excuse me for being very stupid and probably missing something obvious here, but whats the story behind the name on the bow and the stern being spelled differently?
All the best,
Alex

Thanks everyone for the nice compliments.
Alex, glad you've noticed that. the comics of Tintin are originally written in French, Hergé's mother tongue,. In a second stage they were translated in Flemish.
so I thought it would be appropriate to have the name in two languages on the model: Aurora (Flemish) on the stem and Aurore (French) on the stern. The lettering on the seaplane is treated the same way: on the left handside: E.F.W.O. on the right handside: F.E.R.S., the abbreviation stands for European Foundation for Scientific Research.
So this makes it a real compromising Belgian ship (which can't be said of our blundering gouvernment, I'm ashamed to say).

Archibald,
You've been complimentary about my modelling - yours makes mine pale into insignificance!
A superb model, based on a great idea.

I might have missed this but could you tell me what the dimensions of the model are?
Just reading the build thread now and I'm just stunned at the work that has gone into this amazing model.
