z drive Newbie question,
Graupner (Marx) Rudder Propeller Drive SPPS (1775).
Probably not enough information for you experts but here goes.
Anyone who has practical experience of this drive system might know the answer to:-
I've got a 670mm LOA tug. Scratch built, weighs in at around 2kgs.
Motor, MFA 540/1, 12v electrics.
I'd like to fit a single spps drive but can anyone tell me if it's going to give me enough thrust for tug towing??
I've got it in my brain cell that a 50mm prop wouldn't be enough to 'play' effectively.
Thanks, Paul.

My springer runs a 40mm propeller, and can easily run towing events.
ok2

Hi Aimee.
How big and heavy is the springer??

Hi Aimee.

Paul
The springer is 18"(457mm) long, and weighs 8 lbs (3.62k)
And it easily pushes the unloaded barge that is 50"(1270mm) long and weighs 20lbs (9.071k)

The videos were taken when I had a 2:1 belt drive... I have since made the boat direct drive.
A little more speed and a little more power. :-) ... I believe that the schottle drives are all geared 3:1 so
you should probably consider that when choosing a motor.
