Title: AHT 'AZIZ'
Post by: chris holley on May 09, 2010, 11:26:00 pm
I NO ITS A REPOST BUT I PUT IN WRONG PLACE SORRY {:-{

Well i got the tug from a friend an iam now  Very Angry with my self should have looked 1st before i paid an got her home...

the deck looks ok no really work just a bit off glue here an there an the front an rear fenders need to be put on  Happy an as for deck clutter WoW tyres off a 1/10 monster truck??

but the real job, the wiring ive got more wire than an electrical shop?, wire from the motors will wrap around the boat, there is wire from some where to some where  , an every end is diffrent, an more fuses than my car?

one light works dont get me started on those wires.

i pulled it around with a smaller tug just to see what it was like an took on more water than the titanic  Shocked

needs to escs an radio, i was told. £150 i paid i was ROBBED

  Tickoff Tickoff Tickoff

Iam just very very    now

Is it just a rewire job or does the boat need any more work?

Hi Chris

The AZIZ is a lovely boat. I and many others on here have built one.

Could you put up some pictures, please, so that we can see your problems.  There aint nothing that can't be fixed so don't worry. We will all try to help and advise you get her back into shape.

Cheers

Chris
This should do you for starters.
http://www.action-electronics.co.uk/pdfs/Aziz%20-%20Chris%20Holley.pdf (http://www.action-electronics.co.uk/pdfs/Aziz%20-%20Chris%20Holley.pdf)
Circuits A and B are optional so leave 'em off if you just want it to go forwards, backwards and sideways.
Suit yourself.
BTW the Aziz kit is getting on for three hundred quid, so if you got the model and two motors + couplings for half that then it's not really a bad buy.

martin it will be a rewire job, motors look older than me ;), an a bit off rust. i looked at my FE boat if i plug the motor into a speed controller, i should not need the fuses???

an the deck needs a bit off work i think, a few parts have come unstuck. an the lights need attention.

I don't think your are so bad off... a little bit of fresh grease in the stuffing tubes, and
maybe shorten up a few power leads and it should be a nice running ship.

Whats the problem ?
Rip out all the wiring and start again.
You ask FLJ, I know nothing about wiring but with his help it will be a cake walk to get it up and running.

Yes you do need fuses with an ESC.
Title: Re: AHT 'AZIZ'
Post by: Tug-Kenny RIP on May 10, 2010, 08:09:13 pm
The words  "Sheep's Guts"  comes to mind.    ok2

Your best bet is to remove all the wiring as Dicky says, and start again using FLJ's drawing.

I would, however keep the 2 wires connected to the bow thruster motor as this might be difficult to rewire back in, and any that go to a lighting system. Put sticky tape on the ends of the wires so that you know where they come from. All the other wires look a bit jumbled and excessive, as UMI has noted, so best start again.

By the time you have followed the new wires, you will be much more familiar with the workings of your boat.

The motor looks to have rusted !!  The prop tubes could be greased when you replace the motors so don't worry about leakages yet.

Hope this helps

Ken

I hadn't wired a model up the first time, have a look at the wiring diagram for the aziz from ACTion and break it down in to the different parts. Maiin motors first then the bow thruster followed by the rest. Personnally I would junk the wire and buy new silcone wire from the  [ur]lhttp://www.component-shop.co.uk/[/url] and use the ACTion gear listed.

Remember there isn't a stupid question.

I think you got a very fair deal Chris.

I agree with everyone else. Remove all the wiring to let the dog see the rabbit so to speak.

Cheap 5 channel 2.4 Radio £45.95

Rewire using an ACTion Electronics wiring Diagram. They do everything you need including silicone cable.

2.4 Gig 4 Channel Radio including receiver £27:  http://www.giantcod.co.uk/transmitters-c-40_161.html

Not a bad system as I have 2 transmitters and 5 receivers.

Hi Chris
Don't Panic the motors are the Model Slipway  recommendations  for this boat mine are rusted on the cases like that but all works fine.
They come from MFA.
I have the action mixer set up but no bow thruster it is not a problem.
A lot of the water gets up the rudder tubes as these are short.
I also have RTV the rear deck in place now I have the running gear sorted as I nearly got sunk by the wash from a big torpedo boat the other week.
I would have expected to pay in the region of £275 for that.

Like others say, just break down the wiring into smaller instalations,eg motor 1,motor 2,thruster,lighting. Then do each section at a time, checking as you go, it's not too difficult. I think you got a good deal too. For radio systems check out http://www.westbourne-model.co.uk/planet-radio-control-systems-2-4gig-10888-0.html (http://www.westbourne-model.co.uk/planet-radio-control-systems-2-4gig-10888-0.html) look at their systems. The wiring diagrams from Action Electronics already mentioned are pretty good. Keep us posted of progress. Number6 :-)) :-))

Looks like not that much work, and besides its a good introduction to a model having to re-wire it before you run it, at least you'll know how it works if anything goes wrong.

Is it the one that went on eBay for £150 odd the week before last? I was bidding on that but went out and forgot about it so you got a bargain, my limit was £210 ;)

OK i have a question how do i get the motors out, i have borrowed an esc off a tug from the local pond :-)), niether motors work probly sound rough an loud :o

there the mfa type looks like they were put in before the deck went on an i cant get all four screws out?

any ideas i want to pull but risk brakeing the boat <:(
Title: Re: AHT 'AZIZ'

Those MFA motors are geared and they always sound noisy.

Can you drill a couple of holes in the deck above the screws to get your screw driver through?
Title: Re: AHT 'AZIZ'
Post by: DickyD on May 11, 2010, 08:21:31 pm
When you put the motors back, screw though the inside holes where you can get at them afterwards.

Fix the outside of the mount using two thin pieces of wood. Put the bottom piece against the mount then put the top piece on top of the lower one but overlapping the mount then screw through both to fix to your timber. This will form a slot that the motor mount will slide out of should you need to remove the motor in the future. Ice lolly sticks are good for this.

Most motors sound rough and loud when the boat is out of the water.

If you have to get them out, and need access to the screws on the outside, then a
couple of strategically  drilled holes to fit the screw drive may be necessary. The holes can
be patched later from the under side, then filled, or plugged with a dowel and epoxy after
the motors are put back in place.

If possible, try to loosen the two inside screws, then loosen the u-joint disconnecting the motor to
the shaft, and see if the motors can be slid out of place...

postmans been got my T12s.

One thing i found out, last night i was out with my fast electric an some guys from the club came down. We were taking an i told them i had bought the tug, they asked how it was was an i told them. They then told me they had bought a few boats off this guy, an the reason they leak, rusty an full off wire an fuses, he like to make things less complicated with the wires but the rusty. he uses all his boats in the sea they bought a boat where the shafts had seized up so sold they had to be replaced.

Chris,
The boating ponds at Gosport are now all salt water.
Although I am not that keen on it I sail in salt water now and again and with some care the mechanics are fine.
It just takes a little more work to clean up then everything is fine.
