Title: New type of tires
Post by: Jimmy James on May 15, 2010, 08:12:34 pm
What do you think of this
CHECK OUT THESE TIRES !

These tires are made in South Carolina , USA ....

SEE -THROUGH TIRES
Radical new tire design by Michelin.
The next generation of tires.
They had a pair at the Philadelphia car show..

Yes, those are 'spoke' like connections to the inner part of the tire from the outside tread 'wrap!' The next picture shows how odd it looks in motion....

Makes you wonder how the ride feels doesn't it?

These tires are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon.
The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these..
Just think of the impact on existing technology:
A. no more air valves...
B no more air compressors at gas stations...
C. no more repair kits...
D. no more flats....
These are actual pictures taken in the South Carolina plant of Michelin.

Very interesting - but what keeps them attached to the wheel rim if there is no air pressure?

Michelin delve down these paths historically, and we still have the same old tyres.
Reminicent of the triangular tire of 20 odd years ago that Michelin tried. They also where going to be the "new" future of auto tyres. They also could run airless. But required a whole new wheel to use them. Wheel manufacturers where less than co-operative.

Some more info here: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/tweel-airless-tire.htm

Seems like a work in progress at the moment and no good for over 50mph.

Imagine the bounce when you get all those little webs full of snow and ice.

Well with these types of tires on a car that means that the police will not be able to use the tire spikes to deflate  the tires inorder to slow down or stop a car then.

What the police would need is a cageful of hamsters. Throw them in between thes rubber spokes and get them to run in the opposite direction....

I thought Richard Hammond was now protected from disparaging remarks by Mayhemmers

Having said that the tyres would look good on my AHT!
