Title: HMS Illustrious
Post by: Tug-Kenny RIP on June 09, 2010, 10:54:27 am

Thanks to Dicky D's recommendation, I have bought this Airfix Kit of the Aircraft carrier, HMS Illustrious.

My shop had them on offer for £42 so I couldn't refuse.  I show the contents of the box below after examining them.

The ship is 20 inches long, so for me, I can put it in my pocket. Should make into a nice little ship if done carefully with magnifying glasses. My original thought was to use it as a master for an enlarged scratch build, but looking at the parts I should think this was a job for life.

We'll see how it goes.   8)

Second batch.

I shall of course not be using the glue supplied, but the ever faithful 'Plastic weld'. You do get a section of paints with as well, so it should all be there.  and NO, I won't be motorising it as it might sink. (don't want to increase my reputation eh !!)

Blog now completed in the Warships department.

Total build time a few hours each day. (didn't want to rush it !!)

Lovely to put together. Well manufactured piece of gear.

     (ideal for a Hospital bed as you want for nothing except cutters, file and glue)      :}

I believe White Ensign has an etched brass set out for this kit, priced at £54.00, its got everything to super detail it including the railings, i still haven't got mine, even though i have been wanting one for the last year and a half, but as things are at the moment i thing its over priced, never mind the etched set, don't know maybe its me, but i think model kits are getting too dear.
