I was thinking of building a Thunder Power Victoria, but I have had to shelve the idea, as the pond I want to use is only about a foot deep :((
A Robbie Rainbow 11 is ok and a Comtesse should be ok a 210mm draft.
Any other Yacht Kits with a low draft I should consider? I have been told that a Micro Magic is just about ok if the pond is full... <:(
-
You might try a Cat or a Trimaran
Freebooter
-
Not thought of that jimmy... any kits I should look at?
-
I just (roughly) measured the draft on my Thunder Tiger Victoria, and it's under ten inches.
So if you have a foot of water, should be fine.
My opinion; forget the R.Rainbow, horrible!
Edward.

Im not sure but could you not take a standard hull design and fit a Bilge Keel of half the size of the normal keel, so 12" keel = prob a 7" Bilge keel.
Just an idea :-)
-
Fit an Australia type winged keel as seen on the Largs MBC galleons. I'm sure Norry could send you a photo if asked. (ie sit the hull on a half inch thick lead plate - works as a stand as well!)
-
Thanks for the info guys, I will have another look at the Victoria again and this time take a ruler ok2
The wing and bilge keel idea are interesting ideas but i'm not up on them...More research required

My Thunder Tiger Victoria is 9 inch draft. No problem in shallow water.
Stay away from the cheap Chinese RTRs. Guaranteed to dissapoint.
-
Thanks Tiger, They have new yacht called the Odyssey... The Victoria seems to out of stock with most LHS in the UK... Has it been replace by the Odyssey?
-
The Victoria is still in existance. It has a big following'
The Odyssey is also significantly smaller.
Vic. 78cm
Ody 61cm
17cm at that scale is a BIG difference.
I looked at the Odyssey before buying the Victoria. The former looks much smaller. In addition, size matters when it comes to performance. I am not sure how the Odyssey would fare in stronger winds.
Personally I would shop around and try to find someone who has a Victoria in stock. Or wait, or try another boat of about 80cm in length with a reasonable draft. I am not sure of the draft on the MicroMagic, another boat that comes highly recommended.
-
Tiger, As the pond I want to sailin in is very small, smaller may be better. The Micro magic works ok, but the keel grounds if the water level drops couple of inches.
-
Have you thought about building a 'footy'?
-
...Good Morning Guys...
There is a model of "PRINCE WILLEM" at Richmond...I will get some pictures of the keel and post them tomorrow...
...Best Regards...Norry...

Hi Dekan, I have just purchased a model of an 8metre yacht. This is being produced by a member of a local club. It is superb quality, comes with a colour choice, the hull is fitted with keel weight included, rudder fitted, deck and sails, all for a very reasonable £135. If tis sounds interesting PM me fo more details. By the way, the reason for your question in the beginning, it has a draft of about 9 inches.

Thanks Alan, any pics?

Just the thing for a small pond :}
Somewhere to put the small pond. {-)
Just thought of another candidate for sailing in a shallow pond
http://www.rcmodels.co.uk/product_info.php/products_id/45?osCsid=ab622827e6e488a45551297a02b62472
Aussie 11 benefits from a few mods, but is good for small, shallow ponds. Hopefully its still available.

Many pictures of 8metre yachts on Southwater Dabblers Model Boat Club website
Alan
-
Sorry Alan... but they look way to big
-
The 8metre is about 40" long and about 9lbs in weight, keel to top of mast 66".
Alan
-
66" is a bit too tall to fit in my Citroen C1

I went to a local boat club today. One of the guys let me sail his Thunder Tiger Victoria for 30mins.Thanks Peter
I was very impressed with the kit, several guys had them, fantastic value for money and they seem not to need much water under them :-))..and they handle quite a breeze.
So all I need now is to find a dealer who actually has one in stock :-)
-
Useful find. :-))
If the other guys at the club have Victorias you will be able to sail with them if they do friendly competitions.
And they will be able to give you advice on tuning the boat so it sails faster. O0
Always nice to sail with others with the same boats. :-))
-
Tiger, They used to race the Victoria but now they just sail them for fun.
-
Fun races are the best kind! :-))
