Title: New Prime Minister
Post by: cbr900 on June 24, 2010, 09:23:52 am
Well it looks like we in Australia are getting closer to you lot on the other side of the pond
as we now have a Welsh Primeminister in Julia Gillard. God help us now I can't imagine she
will be any better than the other numbskulls we have had.
The first woman Primeminister and a redhead to boot..............

I never liked Rudd (don't like Gillard either) but the way they cut him down you have to have a bit of sympathy for the man. I know it is politics and it is a rough game but surely a tap on the shoulder as apposed to a knife in the back would have been better.

Derek

Don't get me wrong I detest the gang of four and what they have done to Australia so much so I have become politically active with an opposing party. What I can not believe is the power of one or two unions who can displace a Prime Minister of the country at their whim. Don't jump on me and call me a union basher as I believe anyone should be a member of a union if they want. However the union movement in Australia has too much power for the number of people they have as members (less than 20% of the workforce) If it were a Liberal PM who was just displaced by a group of like minded people say the Dentists Assoc of Australia would that not seem a little strange that the Dentists have the deciding say on who is PM?? Would that not say that Dentists have too much power?? No interest group should have that power. Oh well lets see what happens at the next election it is democracy after all.

Reflecting on Rupert Murdoch's take on all this perhaps  ;)

This is not a dig, Murdoch controls the main UK papers as well.

Always worth remembering that the press is never independant.

If I remember correctly isn't Macquarie street where all the specialists are located.

Quite correct, the state parliament building is up towards Hyde Park and the specialist doctors are mostly down at the Domain end. It's quite ironic, really, some specialists are badly needed in parliament to fix the health of the NSW economy. The bunch of clowns running the state at present are killing it  >>:-( >>:-(.

Only if you live in NSW, that is, Newcastle, Sydney or Wollongong.

mmmmm.....Peter...even though Wollongong is the industrial heart of Australian for steel making...being a labour heartland means that neither political party will do much for the city or the Illawarra

Children in Sydney & Newcastle have State subsidsed bus passes for transport on State owned buses to school..........in the Illawarra....parents have to pay bus fares to send their children to school on private bus companies .........Derek  >>:-( <*<  O0
Title: Re: New Prime Minister

parents have to pay bus fares to send their children to school on private bus companies

Derek, the NSW government subsidises all school student travel to and from school, provided that the student lives outside a 1.6km radius of school, except for infants where no restriction applies. In areas where there is no government transport, that is, outside the Sydney and Newcastle areas, students travel with private bus companies. Students are issued with passes, and the subsidy is paid direct to the bus company by the government. All NSW students are eligible for the subsidy.

I worked for a local bus and coach company for 12 years, so I am familiar with the subsidy scheme.

Julia Gillard touring the countryside in a chauffeur-driven car.
Suddenly, a cow walks out onto the road, they hit it full on and the car comes to a stop.
Julia in her usual charming manner, says to the chauffeur:
'You get out and check - you were driving. '
The chauffeur gets out, checks and reports that the animal is dead.
'You were driving; go and tell the farmer, ' says Julia.
Five hours later, the chauffeur returns totally plastered, hair ruffled with a big grin on his face.
'My god, what happened to you? 'asks Julia.
The chauffeur replies: ' When I got there, the farmer opened his best bottle of malt whisky, the wife gave me a slap-up meal and the daughter made love to me. '

'What on earth did you say? 'asks Julia.

'I knocked on the door, and when it was answered, I said to them:

'I'm Julia Gillard's chauffeur and I've just killed the cow.'

Julia Gilliard’s first interview…

TV: “Congratulations Prime Minister. Before we start, as we stand here on Thursday afternoon, do you accept that tomorrow will be Friday?”

PM: “We have always supported the standard structure of the calendar and acknowledge that the public expect a regular system that provides the rhythm necessary for everyday planning and life structures. We feel very strongly about this.”

TV: “So you do agree that tomorrow is Friday?”

PM: “It isn’t important whether it is Friday or Monday. What is important is that unexpected changes don’t interfere with the normal expectations of the public - and this government has a solid record in supporting those expectations.”

TV: “But as today is Thursday, surely you can confirm that tomorrow is Friday?”

PM: “Everything is relative and whether the next day is Wednesday or Sunday is dependent on where you stand at the time. We have never challenged the current system and have the full support of the unions on this. Most intelligent people agree that changes are not required.”

TV: “Well then, what day is tomorrow?”

PM: “Tomorrow is the next day in our plan to further develop our marvelous country in many areas. We plan to continue providing better health care, reduced debt, reduced unemployment, controlled immigration and to be a world leader in controlling global warming.”

TV: “Returning to the question, can you not confirm that Friday is tomorrow?”

PM: “Friday is always around. It has been around many times before and will be around again many more times. Which is why we need - as a responsible government - to plan and organise for the future. Not just for tomorrow, but for our children and their children.

TV: “Prime Minister, the viewers are waiting for your answer on what day you think tomorrow is?”

PM: “We are dealing with bigger issues here. The Friday, Saturday, Sunday thing is not important or relevant to the scheme of things. They need to understand the critical issues and focus on the matters of concern, such as the condition of our nation and how we can continue to develop it so that all may reap the benefit.”

TV: “I’m sorry, we seem to have lost the point here again. Are you saying that it isn’t Friday tomorrow?”

PM: “The reality is that it is not important what day it is. What is important is how we handle the situation - and my government is handling it with solid policies evolved from the mandate the people gave us.”

TV: “But we just want to know if you agree that it will be Friday tomorrow?”

PM: “Let’s remain focused here. It is the nation that is important and we stand fast and rock steady in our dedication to the job in hand. In closing, let me say this one more time – we are fully committed to the task and have commissioned a report that will enable us to develop the plans for the future. Thank you.”
