Not only has Australia got a new, foreign Prime Minister, but I reckon this week must be close to the worst week in it's history for sporting calamities.... %) %) %) %)
Beaten by England at Rugby Union, knocked out of the Football World Cup and leathered twice by the Poms at Cricket...... %% %% %% %% %% %%
Never in it's proud history have disasters like these been recorded... :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
Come on you Aussies, pull your socks up!! {-) {-) {-)
-
O you silly boy! Fancy setting yourself up for the fall you may well have at about this time tomorrow. I can hear the larrikins sharpening their billabongs already.....
Anyway, shouldn't you be supporting your own country's team (Espana)? %)
FLJ
-
Dave, but I am supporting Espaņa!!
My comments were made as a true, independent and concerned onlooker..... %) %) %) %)
-
Thanks for your support FLJ...but we convicts from OZ are tough >>:-( any sporting quip comments are like the proverbial water off a ducks back :embarrassed:
We eat coal dust & Uncle Toby's oats for breakfast :o
We eat iron ore & Vegemite sandwiches for lunch :-))
We have roasted kangaroo + garlic & Tassie avocado + red wine for dinner {-) {-) {-) {-) {-)
BTW...many places in OZ don't have that electricity thingee so we don't get to see any sport loss..... ;D
-
Hey Derek, how do you sharpen a billabong?
-
mmmmmmmmm when I read the post....I thought....just SHUT up derek >>:-( {-) %%
& after 30 minutes all I can think is that the sharpening process must be water cooled :o :-)) ....but it was a witty comment from FLJ so 10/10 ........Derek
-
Hey Derek, how do you sharpen a billabong?
Isn't it with a kookaburra? We imperialists never really got the hang of your strange corner of the Empire, you know. But what ho? Play up! Play up and play the game, say I!
8)
Footski - Confucius say a lot about man who put one on each side of fence............(So did Tom Lehrer :o )
FLJ
-
Well I thought the Aussies did real well at the football, considering.
Thought the Kiwis were great to. :-))
-
Wasn't Tom Lehrer's line:
"...sliding down the razor blade of life"?
-
Barry, I just know you were trying to get a rise out of me O0 , so here goes.
Rugby: We won the first game and in the second, Australia scored more tries but beaten by a Jonny Wilkinson goal (penalty this time).....again >>:-( Redeemed ourselves last night with a good win over Ireland :-))
World Cup: Out, but not disgraced...bigger footballing nations than us have gone ignominiously (France, Italy)
Cricket: These are only practice games, and the Aussie boys are just warming up for the main event later this year. Plus, after a 6-1 thrashing of England in the ODIs last season, we didn't want to humiliate England further %) {-)
Barry, bigger sporting disasters have been recorded, the cricketers were beaten by Bangladesh a while back :embarrassed:
Peter.
-

That's the one. "Bright College Days" I think.
FLJ
-
Dave (FLJ) FYI,
"Billabong" = pool of water O0
"Kookaburra" = A bird who laughs at people trying to sharpen Billabongs :o
"Boomerang" = a curved stick thrown at annoying people, and something that Charlie Drake could never get to come back to him {-)
"Larrikin" = a person who tries to sharpen a billabong, but gives up and jumps in said billabong in frustration - while dodging boomerangs %%
Peter.

So what's an abowriggleknee then Peter?
-
Personally i thought England showed massive signs of improvement in the second test. But he fact remains that Matt missed a sitter from straight out in front which would have seen the score finish 23- 21 to Australia which in my opinion means Australia lost the game rather then England winning it. Besides the NZ Maori then went on to show England how rugby is played when you actually have a front row. <*<
I just assume that sometimes my Northern Hemi friends watch different games to me. Since living in England their rugby team has never lost a game, it just happens that sometimes their team end the game with a lot less points then their opponents.. In the same way no English man ever talks about the "Ashes tour of Oz in '07" as though it never existed. {-) %)
Whenever Australia have a bad day on the sports fiend the rest of the world needs to look out because they ALWAYS come back harder. ALWAYS.
-
So what's an abowriggleknee then Peter?
A proper Awstrailien!
Ned

Goodness ....the British drawwwwwel.... {-) %% & they purport to speak the Queens English >>:-( <*<...watch out or I will find that little Green book again :-)) ....Derek

I had five years being taught the Kings English then had to change to the Queens English. Not an easy thing in a Welsh school %% %%

Peter,
Now would I do that to you??? %) %) %) %) %) %)
Great replies I think. It does show that while Aussie sport is having a little rest, the humour is still alive and well. :-)) :-)) :-))
-
Go Webber :-)), nail that pesky German ;D
Nick
-
Now that is embarressing, the old Digger getting thumped by the Gerry kid all the time, mostly >:-o

....and having beaten Australia on their last visit to Murrayfield, then Ireland and won both matches in the Argentina test series, the Scotland rugby team actually have something to be proud of. Funny how the England rugby results seemed to take precedence in the sports news. O0
Of course we know that our National football team is rubbish, you lot over the Border are just finding out that the same applies to Engerlund. ;D
I predict that World Cup covereage on the TV and in the newspapers will now drop by 90% for which we can only be thankful.

Well at least there is one lucky aussie this week . I do not know how Mark Webber walked away from
from that crash. The car must be a lotal writeoff - just like Englands defence.
Pugwash
-
We beat the Aussies again in todays ODI, I wish they had won then when I am at the Oval on Wednesday it will be game on again might be boring now. I'm not surprised the football team lost, over paid bunch of idiots who can not stand up more interested in money that playing football.
By the way do not bother trying to explain how good football is, I find it utterly boring.
Brian
-
As I said, Brian, we are only giving England a chance to save some face ahead of the Ashes series in Australia later this year O0 {-)
Peter.
-
Watched the race 'til after the restart from yellow, amazing he's unhurt from crash, Kind of regret the comment now :embarrassed:

No comment from the Kiwi :-))
Keep up the good work guys
-
Lets see what tomorrow brings, could be leading to a white wash, we have already beaten your team in every form of the game. {-) {-) {-) {-) {-) {-) {-)
Brian
-
Enjoy your moments of glory, Brian, you don't get too many of them {-)
However much it pains me to admit it, I do believe that the current England team is a very good one, and will give Australia an extremely hard fight in the Ashes O0
BTW, I don't believe you have beaten us at beach cricket {-) {-)
Peter.
-
OK....Peter says.... " BTW, I don't believe you have beaten us at beach cricket" {-) {-) {-) & nor have the British beaten an OZ team @ ladies beach vollyball :embarrassed: %)  ...Derek
-
Beach cricket is for old retired players with nothing better to do and Ladies beach Volleyball is for watching only!! :-)) :-)) :-))
-
Well Peter the England team did not turn up for this ODI, the bowling was poor and the fielding was terrible. When they got in to bat they gave away their wickets too cheaply, and did not seam to want to take risks in running between the stumps. >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-(

{-) {-) {-)
The Aussie ODI team has had little cricket recently, and perhaps they are just starting to warm up. It was quite a convincing win :-))
Peter.
-
Peter,
You know the English....Too soft by far. No way could we let your worst sporting week run into a fortnight! %) %) %) %)

I believe in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy too, Barry {-) {-)

And today you got bundled out, all out for 88 by Pakistan. Your Woes continue! Mind you, you have the chance to get rid of the Woman Prime Minister in August, be a very short Term in Office! will she get a Life Long Pension?
-
And today you got bundled out, all out for 88 by Pakistan.
Very embarrassing :embarrassed: However, the fight back continues, never under estimate a wounded kangaroo O0 {-) {-)
