Hello
Andrew here, I have been wanting to build a PT Boat for as long as I can remember, I have built a Billings boat kit or 2. So this is the start of my 1:20 scale PT Boat quest. looking at this wonderful forum there is a mountain (or should i say lake) of information.
Cheers
Andrew

Hi Andrew and welcome to the forum. (Or should that be kia ora and haere mai?) :-)
There certainly is lots of info on the forum, and all you have to do is ask. Don't forget to post photos of your build, we would be interested to see them.
Peter.

Hi Andrew,

Welcome aboard Andrew. I suggest you join a club for local contacts. I am in Waihi at the bottom of the Coromandel Peninsula but am an "out of town" member of the Scale Marine Modellers Club in Auckland and find it very useful as a source of contacts, ideas and help. Last Labour Weekend we went to Hawera for two days sailing and met up with a lot of members of a Wellington group so they are out there. I imported a Fairmile "D" hull from the UK for a friend and this forum was extremely helpful on where to get fittings, running gear etc. Cheers, Ian.

Hi Andrew - A late war Elco 80 'barge buster' at 1:20 (48") hull will be really impressive. :-))

Hi Andrew - welcome to the forums!
As you have seen there are a few kiwi's on here :)
I have done the Dumas 32" PT-109 and if you have done a couple of Billings kits, I would have thought that you could do the Dumas OK. A plus is that it seems to be fairly easily obtainable in NZ. Very few kits from English manufacturers are here unless specially imported. The Elco PT-596 Italeri kit can be found easily as well - well in Auckland anyway - and I have seen some on TradeMe too. There are a couple of examples on mayhem where these have been converted to R/C.
Here is my Dumas 109: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62CrIu98LGo - it's after the Moonglow.

Im looking at doing a scratch built, well based off the free drawings on http://www.pt-boat.com. It looks quite good. Im having the normal problem of supply here in Wellington, It seems no one carries the 1.5 or 3mm ply in the quantities I need, anyway Ill find away :-)
-
Andrew, I have bought half sheets of 1.5 and 3mm Gaboon marine ply from "Ply Man" in both Auckland and Tauranga so it is possible they have a branch down your way. Cheers, Ian.
