Maybe it should be named "Ivor Shorthouse" {-) O0

That's possibly the strangest boat I have ever seen, it's bizzare %%

Hi All, New guy here just looking around for a tug to build. Would love something different and recently came across the BRATT Tug. I would alos like to build this tug if plans are available or drawings. Anyone have any thoughts? Or a tug of this size? Thanks all, Steve
-
I don't think there are that many 26 foot tugs with this style of profile.
Here are couple drawings that could be worked from...

Thanks for that link. I just sent off an email to the designer to see if it would be possible to get some drawings. We will see......

Hi guys if you look on www.macduffshipdesign.com you will find lodsa small and interesting tug/workboats.
Just click on the design tab at the top of the page and you will go to the varies designs, click on these and you will get all the details and a GA drawing.
If you click on the gallery tab then you'll get good photos of the tugs ( and other ships they produce )
A real interesting site.

Beautiful boats - I found the pictures etc in the "News" section really interesting. TVM

I completely forgot about Macduff ship designs.
I actually have quite a bit of information archived about the Macduff boats... %)
Thanks for that link. I just sent off an email to the designer to see if it would be possible to get some drawings. We will see......
Robert Allan was the Marine Architect that found his designs being built in China, after sending a set of
those plans to a boat modeler. There was legal action, and many design firms stopped sharing out plans
after the incident. Just a month ago, Robert Allan posted on our local boards, and "issued a cease and desist" to
a modeler that was posting a build up of one of RA designs. It probably wouldn't have been an issue, but
the modeler had gotten a hold of hull lines from a builder, and posted a partial image of the lines.
They C&D order was posted by the time the thread got to the second page, four days... {:-{
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1338105&highlight=rastar#post16545114
However, if you can build from the photos and other public information, go crazy....
I built the Fireboat that Robert Allan designed, and had no issues. :-))

Got a reply today from Robert Allen. It's a no go from them. Kind of figured that anyway but it was a shot. No I have to desing my own little tug.
-
I'm sure Model Boats issued a feature and plan of the Sea Helper designed by Macduff.
It was 1/16 scale so made a pretty chunky wee tug.
If you go onto the Macduff site you will see photos of it.
You could easily modify it to suit other small tug boats using the hull lines from the plan.
Hope this helps

Well, I have decided to build my own and have the hull laid out, green potting foam between the ribs and all faired out, and a layer of Durams Rock Hard Putty on the whole thing. I will try and post a couple pictures tomorrow or so. It is going to be about 15 inches long by 9 inches wide. The hull bottom is pretty rounded, but will have a nice size keel. I am thinking of one Z drive. Any thoughts on what I could use for the fenders like on the BRATT?

Here is another look at the BRAtt hull form... ok2

thanks fo the link Umi...

...Hi Guys...
The more I see these wee tugs , The more I want one...But would probably have to settle for a Model one...
Anyone else fancy a Model...I think 1/12 Scale would be ideal...
...Best Regards...Norry...
-
I would love one. I have been looking at the photos on the link that Umi posted, It's pretty neat.

Hi everyone, I was roaming round the forum the other day and came across this which might be of interest http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=23939.0 (http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=23939.0)
Not quite exactly the same but looks very similar.

I have decided to try and scale the BRATT tug out to 1/12, which would be about 25' 7" long by 14' 2" beam. When a tug is measured, do they include the fendering?
Steve

Phil Bolger has designed some little mini-tugs for ply construction and use as pleasure boats on sheltered waters. They tend to have flat bottoms and o/b power, but might be worth a look.
-
I have started my BRAtt build. I have taken all the photos and pictures and drawings I can find and have scaled them up to 1 inch to 1 foot. I have the keel and ribs made and put together. I am going to add some styrofoam between the ribs so I can fill the gap between the ribs for the 1/8" ply. With out something between the ribs, the ply tends to flatten out, which would mean more filler to fair out the hull. I have not decided if I will make a mold, or just pull a hull off the plug. I will try to get some pictures to post here soon. Steve
-
Well. I have been working on the plug for my BRAtt Tug. I have a layer of 1/8 in bending ply on the bottom and some Bondo on the seams and low spots, and everything sanded flush. A little more sanding and Bondo and I should have the bottom ready for primer and paint. Also have a layer of the 1/8" ply on she sides where the Fendering will attach. Now I have to start work on the bullworks. Not sure how to proceed, so that is in the thinking process. I have also bought some 1 inch black rubber hose and some yellow zip ties off of Ebay for the fendering. Getting a little ahead of myself, but it was a good deal. Attached is a photo

Update on the BRAtt Tug build: I have the bullworks on and cut down to shape. Lots of sanding and filler for the low spots. I have a few coats of primer on, and somemore sanding and a bit of filler here and there. When the rain stops I will put on a few more coats of primer, and get her ready for a coat of paint. Played around making a towing staple. 3rd time was the charm. 9/16 inch aluminum bent around a 1 inch socket. Even have my first deck hand on board. Cartoon boat needs a cartoon crew.

I am at the point that I need to start working on the 2 part mold. First time I have made a 2 part mold. Did a lot or research on the internet and U tube. I think I have it all down. Got my plug all primed and the keel installed. All sanded smooth. Have about 5 coats or orange paint on it now, and just have to do a bit of buffing to make it baby smooth now that it has sat for about a week. Want to make sure the paint is hard. Did a bit of work on my crewman. If he falls overboard, his new life jacket will keep him aflote. Steve

Update: I have been talking with a guy in CA about making the mold for me. Not enough time here to get it done. Work for myself and now I have to take over a family business and get it running for my elderly Dad. Just not enough hours to go around. Will keep you all posted.
-
I have had a bit of time here and there and got some work done on the tug. I have added about 6 inches to the length of the keel and I have started on the splitter for the 2 piece mold.

Up date on my build.
My father passed away in May and I have taken over his business for my Mom. I still have my woodworking business and I am a dog agility instructor and teach a class on Tuesday nights. I do not see any time in the near future where I might be able to get this plug into a mold and make a hull for myself. So.... I am thinking that maybe I will sell it with the thought that someone would be interested in it and can make the mold, and a hull for themselves and one for me for sometime in the future, and ?
All that is needed to finish the plug would be a wet sanding and polish. If anyone is interested drop me a note. Happy Modeling, Steve
-
i am sure someone in mayhem world would take this on, - andy G MBD ????- i am sure you would get modellers interested in buying a moulding ?- - i am interested in a set of mouldings for this boat.... i guess there are others !

Hi
I came across some photos of a Training Tug - BRAtt at
http://www.pbase.com/portwelland/bratt
I think this would make a nice largish scale build that
probably wouldn't fill a garage. What do you think?
I haven't looked any further than the above site.
