Post by: jaysim on July 09, 2010, 10:38:44 am
Does anyone know of a 1/72 Castle, river, lock, bay, blackswan etc hull to go with my flowers and also 1/96 Daring class destroyer(not new one but 1950 era).
Thanks Simon

There is a distinct lack of 1/72 WW2 warship kits.  The original Flower was created as scenery for OO model railways, and took up a lot of space on a layout.  Anything bigger would need a bigger box, have greater development costs resulting in higher prices and thus a reducing potential number of sales.  The price of the original, if produced as new today, in todays prices, would likely be over £200.  The fact that the Revell version has been selling for between £38-£55 over the past ten years just reflects that its development costs were covered a long time ago, a complete new production would not be in the same price league.
Having said that, if there was a MK1 Flower I would be near the front of the queue, a trawler escort type would be most welcome, but if I really want one, I fear its the "buy a plan and some planks and scratchbuild" time.  Something for it to escort would be nice....
In 1/96, Deans have nearly as many destroyers, sloops and frigates as Janes Fighting Ships of WW2.
