I have received a request from the BBC for help in locating a model of an ST200 seaplane tender for a feature they are making.:
We are filming an item on Aircraftman Shaw ( TE Lawrence) and his role in the development in planing craft for air-sea rescue. We need these models for someone to hold and demonstrate the shape of the hull and possibly to place them on the water to see how they sit.
I realise this might be a tall order but any help or information would be gratefully recieved.
We are filming in 10 days so don't have time to make our own models.
If anyone can help, please PM me and I will pass on the contact details. The BBC researcher is based in Birmingham.

Hi Colin, No suggestions on the model front, however, I'm assuming this researcher realises that ST206 (see below) is a survivor:

Strange, I was led to belive 'aurences RAF rank was A.C.2 Ross when "Helping" his mate with the BPB craft.
Regards Ian.
Model wise, don't "Deans" have one on show??

Subject: Model boats
Hi,
I'm researching for an episode of the next BBC series of the Coast Programme and we're doing a piece on boats which requires these three models
model ST 200 series Sea Plane Tender (with hard chine planing hull) in RAF colours if possible
model HSL 102
model of old style displacment Sea Plane Tender (previous model to ST 200)
We need to borrow / loan these for a days filming and any help you could give in locating any of these would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in anticipation
Jorg Muschner
Dont think I would lend my model to a TV company.

Why not, as long as it's fastened to your wrist with a piece of string.

Yes, same person Richard, I didn't want to put his email on the Forum. The ST200 model which featured in last years's Model Boat's Winter Special is in Australia so not very accessible.
I hired out my old SS Granada fruit ship to film companies years ago, they paid quite well!

Just Wiki'd the name, extract below
In August 1922, Lawrence enlisted in the Royal Air Force as an aircraftman under the name John Hume Ross. He was soon exposed and, in February 1923, was forced out of the RAF. He changed his name to T. E. Shaw and joined the Royal Tank Corps in 1923. He was unhappy there and repeatedly petitioned to rejoin the RAF, which finally admitted him in August 1925.
He continued serving in the RAF based at Bridlington, East Riding of Yorkshire, specialising in high-speed boats and professing happiness, and it was with considerable regret that he left the service at the end of his enlistment in March 1935.
So he may well have been known as "Ross" in his second RAF stint, when he was messing about in boats.
My interest? When my dad was in the Army in WW1, he spent most of the time in Egypt and wound up in the Imperial Camel Corps, who provided transport of supplies to units in outlandish places like Palestine. My dad said that on one occasion his officer pointed out "three scruffy, flea bitten Arabs. The shortest and scruffiest was Lawrence."

We have some RAF models at Newhaven Museum, I'll check what ones are there.
