i just seen the ship on the spotlight loads of things being washed up on the beaches and some nice views of the tug to
-
That is one impressive little tugboat!
-
A KIT?? With all those compound curves??
Mayhem, you're just an old tart. It'd have to have "ROBBE" on the box lid before you'd even look at it - and you wouldn't pay the asking price anyway.
Seriously slippery though..........
-
Sorry, no plans. I think she may come from Le Harvre as "Abeille" is a name I have seen on several tugs and fishing boats there.
I think you could get a good looking model from a scratch build to encompass ( !!!!) all those compound curves but FOUR thrusters! I guess you do not need to install them all.
Roger in France.
-
Probably needs four thrusters to counter all that top hamper up forrard. Very handsome though, and how sensible to paint "rescue zone" on the side so you don't go looking for the scrambling nets in the wrong place!
How are they going to register those BMWs? If they are new, it'll be some time before it's worth breaking them for parts.
-
A bit like the Bibby Saphire
-
Wow thats a nice looking tug, i think someone needs to take on board the project of building this ship then produce a kit for all to buy.
Quad props sound pretty smart for tug comps aswell.
So whos going to be the first to scratch build one of these then???
Jay
-
No Jay - that's not four props; it's four thrusters. That's two in the bow bulb and two aft between the Kort nozzles. Kit would need to be about 1/72 scale (= around 44 ins long). Have researched the shipbuilders but my Norwegian ain't that good and the only view I can find elsewhere is a side elevation. Not a lot of use for hull lines etc. Would welcome any further contributions - a kit is not impossible.

Here's a couple of videos showing the predecessor to abeille bourbon & liberte, the abeille flandre

44 inches is a nice size FLJ, at 1/72nd scale you could fit it out easy with various deck fittings and the like.
would the thrusters be of any use in a model or would you go with just the kort nozzles???

http://www.netmarine.net/g/bat/abeilleliberte/caracter.htm
The thrusters are the items shown as props just aft of the bow bulb and in the keel just ahead of the Kort nozzles. They aren't "thrusters" in the Queen Mary II sense of the word in that they are fixed within the hull and only thrust at 90 degrees, port or starboard. Normal fore and aft propulsion is via two thumping great big conventional props in Kort nozzles; these would be replicated in a model. Working bow thrusters shouldn't be a problem but the ones at the stern probably would be, due to the thin keel. I don't know of any commercial units which would suit and please don't anyone tell me of any ! I don't have time to consider this model at the moment due to other projects.
-
well there you go i learn something new everyday, do you think you could build a model from the side view and photos of the tug???
go on we all know you want to get your teeth into this project ;D
Jay

FullLeatherJacket I seem to recall a little model Police boat with a 'steerable' Kort Nozzle and I am sure, with a little bit of thought, these could be modified to fit in a very thin keel to act as thrusters and no doubt if someone came up with a couple of good photos of their Abeille Liberté & Abeille Bourbon in drydock with a couple of good bow/stern views of her, we may hear some cogs grinding from FullLeatherJacket ;D ;D ;D

No.
John
You know too much..........and that steerable Kort was fifty quid without a motor!
-
Strange Fr sense of humour - if Abeille means bee, and Liberte is Freedom, would Dean's Marine have to give them away as FreeBees?
Just hoping.

Impressive tugs huh??
If someone markets that hull in model form, and a good scale, say 1/32, I'd buy a couple!! O0

Its a shame no-one does kits of the British Coastguard tugs i think, i'd have said the sisters Anglian Princess and Anglian Sovereign would make superb kits, the nearest we have is the Salvageman hull which is now the Anglian Prince.

I also fancy this design. Unfortunately, it would come out at Seven foot long if using the scale of 1/32.
Perhaps a scale of 1/50 might be practical.
(is there enough hours in the day. So much to do....so little time ;))
