Title: Military flights
Post by: Patrick Henry on August 20, 2010, 05:49:59 pm
Any of you guys know a site where I can discover the reason for all the military flights that come over here? F'rinstance, today we've had a Chinook go over...ten minutes later the same Chinook came back, practically along the same path. That one often comes over here along the same flight path.

We've had a Puma chopper over, flying very low, circled over the by pass for a few minutes, then went off towards the coast. About an hour later...back it came, still flying very low.

About an hour ago a Typhoon came over at a hell a rate of knots, heading from West to East...haven't seen him come back.

I know the site for following the Police helicopter, but I'd love to know if there's something similar for the military?

Ta,

Could be a low level flying corridor

Not too sure about websites but would check some air navigation maps they
 will show any corridors

Might just be the Shoreham Air Show, commemorating 70 yrs since the Battle of Britain this year.

I get plenty of military helicopters fly over my place and I live in London, so you are not alone.

We had an instance of this sort of activity over a few days recently
Helos Military of all descriptions passing over my place of work on the Humber Bank
Going East about every half hour and returning some with underslung loads
When I checked on Ship AIS for the Humber Area I found an RFA Fort boat was anchored
off the Yorkie Coast for a few days so it was obviously some sort of logistic excercise
Bet it kept the RFA Flight deck Officer out of his pit!

It's quite a regular occurrence, the Chinook has just gone over on it's usual path...I couldn't see it, it's raining that hard, but you can hear those things miles away.

By the time I'll have finished this, it's a certainty that it'll be coming back again...they seem to fly out as far as Beachy Head, then turn and come back. It's mainly Chinooks, although now and again we might get a Puma or even that huge great Rescue helicopter, I believe it's a Russian built job, it's massive.

True to expectation...the Chinook has just returned from wherever it's been, slightly East of it's normal flight path...which is good as that brings it closer to my home.
