i've seen the other post about your electric's was tempted to write my own oppinions on electric's but most of the guys have aided you in the right direction. but i will give you a website that most of us here use for our boating electronical needs it also provides valuable info on electronics in general to wiring diagrams etc.

what i will advice for your boat.. setup wise

2 550 motors..
2 mtronic esc rated 25A
1 Action P40 mixer ( this allows 2 motors to run using a 2 channel radio unit, it slows down the inside motor to corspond with the rudder turning aiding in a faster more stable turn)
2 7.2v lipo's

or if you want to save money with spending £50 ON 2 ESC'S ALONE buy ACTIONS P94 at £78 will do the above setups job in one single unit and no messing about.  its 2 20A esc (more then enough for 2 550 motors) build in mixer  :-))

happy boating

Hi there Karl, I'm hgv driver but been off 7 weeks so far with bust Achilles tendon, not much fun being stuck indoors but at least can get some boat building done! Used to do r/c cars too and done helicopters but boats more relaxing to build and to sail. Got too many boats to mention and lots still to do, currently building Model Slipways Our Lass 2 and getting ready to start my 8ft supertanker when I can get about better. Take it easy, Dave. :-))

Hi Prophet thank you for your input. i'm running 2x550 brushed motors so lipos are out i think? Do i really need a mixer or can i just use rudders to turn? i'm not fussed about speed 5mph is fine with me and is it poss to use 1 esc to run both motors?  i'm very sorry if this sounds dumb but im new to this boating fun.
kind regards karl

you can use one esc for both motors but it should be a high amperage esc at least 40A but i would go higher around 80 personally, the mixer is not really needed but you plan on using a 2 channel TX so its really a must since you will have to edit the esc cables to both go into 1 port in the receiver, the mixer does all the jobs in one why i mentioned it.

you can if you wish ... controll each motor separately using a 4+ channel transmitter each motor is on a separate stick but it takes a load of practise to get it to go straight and you have to balance the power of each motor with the turn of the rudder, but you do have the option to not use a rudder with that type of setup but i would ~NOT~ recommend that until you are More confident in your ability's to control a craft on water.. its not like cars can stop on a dime or turn hard and not flip.

the mixer just makes twin motors easy i have never made a boat with twin motors and not used a mixer of some type, even when i built a tank a mixer was definably needed there!

give it some though even ask others about mixers using 2 channel radio gear see what they say , but to me spending a further £18 on a mixer is well worth the hustle of steering, Remember there might be others on the lake/pond that wont want something crashing into them at high speed because you haven't got full control of it , as well as animals hitting one of them is seriously EXPENCIVE!

Hi Karl I am also a retired HGV driver.

This is what I have in my Sentinel.

With 2/550 motors http://www.action-electronics.co.uk/pdfs/Slipway%20Sentinel.pdf

This would be your ideal set up using a 2 channel radio.
