My first post on here, so please be gentle with me. I'm an absolute virgin to modelling so I'm going straight in at the deep end. With coming from a fishing port I'm very much into all things trawlers IE photos, books and any other literature i can get my hands on. Its sidewinders that most interest me, so have seen a few models that have caught my eye Sissapon, Milford Star and the old Boston Typhoon. I have been wanting to take the plunge for years but for one thing and another i never got round to it. I consider myself good with my hands and also very good with instructions and a very patient man. Could you please give me some advice on how you think i would cope with being a complete novice. Thanks in advance Alan.

Welcome to the Madhouse Alan,... some of us might be "gentle with you, seeing as how you are a self-confessed virgin" {-),with modelling, {-) by the way this is a model boat forum, whilst others might just see this as ammunition, don,t take offence,we all mean well, and we will oblige you with our vast amount of knowledge,...well,the others will,as i,m a bit of a numpt when it comes to modelling, but i have been known to talk some sense on rare occasions,

WELCOME Alan to the funhouse, probably there's never been a better time in history to be a novice boater, most of the radio and propulsion gear is quite modular in nature allowing you to pick and mix and plug and play whilst enjoying the satisfaction of the build, you're spoilt for choice boatwise too and i'm sure that you will soon be inspiring us all with your creations (and own designs?!) but do join and strengthen your local club and they will save you much time, money and re-invented wheels, your in for a lotta lotta fun, ideas, info, experience and fellowship in the Forum, AND it's all free of charge O0 though donations welcome!
'Til next time,
Andy

You could join your local model boat club see how you get on with them plenty of advice there. you may pick up a second hand model you could restore which would be good for getting some practical modelling experience on.
I see you have already eyeballed a few kits which can be a good way for a beginer to start depending on their hand skills although
even some of the experienced modders can find them selves swearing at some part of a kit if its not come out the mould properly
and just wont fit together or some part of the fittings kit is missing.
cheers Frank
