Just siting in traffic and noticed on the other side of the road also sitting in traffic a car with a small yacht on a trailer it had a fixed keel and was about 8 feet long big enough for an adult to sit in and sail anybody know anything about these are they raced at all or just a pleasure craft (I think I want one) O0

8ft long, and you want to sit in it and sail, %%,methinks you,d better put the Coastguard on your mob as a contact,..just in case {-)

Fixed keel is unusual in a boat so small. They usually have a centreboard that lowers.
If you just want a fun boat to mess around with on the water, there are lots of small boats you can build yourself. Some under 8 ft.
A style called a 'pram' is popular. Being roughly square in plan view they have lots of room for thier length.
Have a look on the duckworks site for plans.
http://www.duckworksmagazine.com/r/plansindex/prams.htm
and another little sailer under 8 foot.

An under 8 footer might be ok on the Yellow river, but anywhere ,other than an inland stretch of water, with calm waters, then i think you,d be in trouble, %%

Was it one of these (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2.4_Metre_%28keelboat%29)?
2.4 metre keelboat = ~ 8 feet long.

2.4mR is the rule they are built to.

So if i,m ever on "who wants to be a milliionaire, whereby the million pound question is,what length is a 2.4m yacht, and i say 4.16m do you think i,ll win {-)

Not if they ask for the waterline length.
Thats what is meant by the 2.4MRule
Americas Cup Yachts had to comply to the 12mRule
again it's waterline length
Bow and stern overhang can be what the designer desires 8) 8) 8)

Was it a Sunbird? I saw one at the Glenridding sailing school many, many years ago. A miniature keel yacht designed, originally, for disabled sailors. If you look at the following link and search for sunbird there's one there:

They have a fleet of International 2.4 Metres at Rutland SC.
The Int 2.4m's are about 13.5 - 14.5 feet long.
Illusions are 13 feet overall, the biggest fleet is in Bembridge, Isle of Wight.
