Mitchell Library in Glasgow, also there are several clubs in Glasgow who specialise in Clyde steamers. If you try the Wavery Preservation Society they should be able to point you to somene with a builders plan.

Hi Frank.
You Might try a website that I discovered at the Warrington show in August. Clyde Model Boats, this chap has a number of hulls, one of which could be suitable for your King George V. His site is www.clydemodelboats.co.uk Kim is a very helpfull person and covers a multitude of fittings, I will be personally using him for some etched section in the near future.
Cheers. Howard

Hi
The National Maritime Museum Greenwich hold the "Denny" plans....I'm not sure about the KG V specifically, but if they hold any plans they should email you with the sheets they have availabe for the ship.
Last time I bought plans from there they were about £16 or so a sheet, so not cheap if you need a few plans!
Also a good book with line drawings of KG V plus on board detail photos -
Coastal Vessels in Detail by Charles V. Waine ISBN 0 905184 18 1
Good Luck!

I have a copy of the Denny List. Plans held in the National Maritime Museum for the ship consist of: lines, rig, promenade/shade/bridge decks; main & lower deck; midsection plus alterations to accommodation in 1932.
Photos held are: stocks/details (5); alongside (4); trials (5)
The original colour scheme details are also given.

Hi Frank
Re Coastal Vessels in Detail
Try McClaren Books
22 John St
Helensburgh
G84 8BA
Phone 01436 676453
email sales@mclarenbooks.co.uk
Good shop I got my copy there.
Re National Maritime Museum....I got several sheets for a Denny vessel from them, they sent me out a proforma in the mail. On contacting them again, some time later, they had found even more plans for the vessel, so, if at first you don't succeed with them, try again, they seen to lose & find plans occasionally!!

Hi All,
I have been following this post with interest.
First off many thanks to Howard Q for his recommendation to my site. And for everybody's interest in the site and King George V.
Long story short i need some room so i am reluctantly putting my own King George V up for sale.
She has been built using -
National Maritime / Denny Builders Plans,
Notes and plans from the late Phil Thomas
Construction techniques -
She has mainly been constructed using cnc manufactured superstructures, seats & fittings.
Progress -
She is approx 90% complete with only detailing on the stern decks needing attention.
Fittings -
Almost all bought fittings are from Caldercraft / quaycraft / James Lane ...etc
Running gear -
She will be supplied with two ideally suited motors but no radio gear.
King George V is a stunning Clyde Steamer and makes a fantastic model both on and off the water.
About the sale -
I am offering her for sale here prior to listing on ebay.
As many of you know unique models like this frequently sell for a lot of money at auction houses. As a modeller myself I'd prefer she went to a modeler with an interest in sailing her rather than sticking her in a glass box.
Cleared payment prior to collection - Strictly collection only. Although i could bring her with me to this years Blackpool show for collection.
Prior to listing her on ebay next Saturday ( 2nd Oct 2010) I am inviting offers in excess of £299.00
Offers and notes of interest should be sent to
mail@clydemodelboats.co.uk
Many thanks for your interest,
Kim

Hi guys and thanks very much for all the help, but Ive one more question.
I got the plans MM1231, Ive copied and scanned the frames no problem at all, made one for the fore section frames and one for the aft section,
whats the best way of reducing them by the thickness of my planking. Is it just to measure the thickness of the plank in from the edge of the frame drawing ?
hope this makes sense
Thanks
-
Hi All,
I have sold my KGV. Thanks for all your interest good to know there is still such a lot of interest in Clyde Built Boats.
Frank, regarding your question about reducing frames etc. Yes i could probably give you the info you needed but before going down that route Personally i would be asking myself these questions -
1 Have i got builders drawings?
2. What would be the cost of producing a hull (taking research costs, Production time, Production costs, Material costs)?
3. Is there or will a commercial hull be available?
Now if your answer to Q1 is perhaps no and the answer to Q2 is in the hundreds of pounds mark then perhaps before going to much further send me an email.... I might just be able to help.... even if it's with your original question.
Regards,
Kim
