Title: how to find Amps on model boat electrics
Post by: imara on October 02, 2010, 03:20:30 pm
The only way to get a true figure is to connect a ammeter in line with a motor put the motor under load ie in the water on full throtle (holding the boat) this will give you a true current reading

I use this method but have seen it suggested to me that the reading will be slightly over the 'free running' current due to the 'restraining hand'. Anyway it will give working figure and the actual figure will not be any higher.

You wont get the max amps used as in going full astern while travelling full ahead but as has been said will give a good indication with a small factor of safety.
