Hi,
Can anyone help me with instructions on how to build the Samson 547 Billing Boat?
I picked it up at a garage sale and would love to be able to put it together!!!

I would try approaching Billing direct, you never know. A polite, pleading note for building instructions with an offer to pay all reasonable costs may achieve wonders.

I've just bought one of these complete on Flebay.
Can't help with the build but any pictures you want I should be able to help.... depending on the quality of the thing when I pick it up!
Front what I have found out, the same hull was used for at least 3 Billing boats, Samson II, Polar trawler & Sea Star.
... someone must have the destructions... but I have heard they are not brilliant!
I got mine at a good price as some have gone for over £150 on Fleabay.
How much did you pay for yours sharrylouise?

I have found the booklet for the Samson 2 - I can probably scan pages of it.

Post 7 was probably not very clear.
Martin now has scanned copy of instructions for distribution to all who need them.

I have the files, they are huge .pdf's so I'll try to convert them to .jpg's

A few pictures of mine...
( I should have read the small print ), it doesn't have the normal twin drive. >:-o so I'm going to have to convert it back.
Fortunately everything is stuck in with white silicon sealant so can easily be removed.

Looks like it may have had twin drive at one stage and was converted to single.

Is the norm for counter rotating props for them to turn outwards from the centre.
Namely the (port) left prop turns anticlockwise and the (starboard) right prop turns clockwise.
The two props pictured below are handed, with the one on left marked 'L' and the one on right marked 'R'.
To rotate these as above, that is left turns anticlockwise means I would need to place the 'L' prop on the right shaft (starboard) and the 'R' prop on port shaft or do I leave them as is and rotate them inwards.
Samson has a single rudder on the centre line.

For twin screw, single rudder it is more efficient for steering to have "inward" turning props.
That is looking from the stern the left hand (port) prop turns clockwise and the stbd prop (stbd) turns anti-clockwise.
When turning this way the propwash is directed up to the ships hull and out over the rudder giving better rudder response.

OK, they are correctly marked, so will leave as is and wire motors for inwards turning.

no..no..no.. OZ twin props when viewed from the stern have
1) port side = the blades rotating anticlockwise
2) stdb side = the blades rotating clockwise
{-) :police: :-)) ...pretty simple ....just think.....Derek
