Title: What motors?
Post by: mndsw on February 02, 2007, 11:13:11 pm
I'm new to this forum and have a large number of questions to ask of everyone, so your patience is required!
I'm about to complete a Deans HMS Bulldog. I'm using the shafts and props that came with the kit but have not selected the motors yet which I intend to run off one ESC. Can anyone suggest suitable motors (and battery combination).
Thanks to you all.

Ron Dean sells a range of motors which are suited to his kits. If there isn't a specific type mentioned in the instructions then give him a ring. My logic says that Deans ought to know more about this kit than you do, so a good place to start is with what they use themselves. I find it cuts down on problems later.
Suit yourself, eh?

Contacting Deans does make sense. The build instructions I have suggested modifying servo motors, but I'm sure they'll have an alternative.
Thanks.

Give Deans a ring ,they are very helpful and their motors are excellent.

Deans motors are good.
I would use, as has been said before, the motors he recommends.
Its just a shame he wont give out more information on his motors as I keep asking him!!

If you go onto the Deans Marine web site you will find that they do recommend motors and batteries for specific types of ship.

Try http://deansmarine.co.uk/order1/accp/Untitled-4.jpg for motors and

http://deansmarine.co.uk/order1/accp/Untitled-1.jpg for batteries.

Richard, I think the point here is that HMS Bulldog is one of their compact kits, for which they recommend using a stripped down servo - not ideal for a first timer! One alternative is to use a cassette motor and Pico speed controller from Action - http://www.actionkit.co.uk. This combination is designed for these small models.

Hi
Deans do apparently supply instructions with the kit for altering the servos

I did get hold of some large servo motors and wired them in conventionally.
Model Motors Direct can supply some small, quite fast revving motors too.
