Im doing a project for Uni and as im in chanrge of the electronics group and ive had an extra landed on my lap.
In a nut shell I need an motor which can spin at 35,000 rpm.
It also needs to be able to spin in both directions at these speeds.
It also needs to be able to change directions very very quickly which I think may be the bigest challenge.
Next I need a speed controller which will be able to control the motor as well very pricesly.
Cost isnt a huge issue really as the Uni will be funding it all.
So ideas would be really appriciated.

35,000 RPM are you sure about the speed?
I would be thinking about Brushless motors have a look at these

i should have thought the best way to get that many rpm is to go brushless , in order for further asistance with your project can you advise us as to the intended use please ?

Its part of the Universities Formula Student entry but these things are taken very seriously so I cant really say much more than that.
Im thinking brushless atm but think im gonna have to get some more info .
Being into RC and a member on here thought id ask the question.

A 10Tx2 motor should give you revs in that range,I've got an 8tx2(Trinity P94) which does well in excess of 43,500 rpm,for that you need to buy a no-limit esc,i.e >=5T. Off hand,I can't give a manufacturer unfortunately,though I know that Nosram are a good place to start.

I believe brushless need a brushless ESC.
Another question, what will be the load on the motor?
In terms of AMP, torque, and or Kg.
This may also help get you an answer.

Cost isnt a huge issue really as the Uni will be funding it all.
Perhaps the thought of the bottomless pit of education funding makes me a bit skeptical to dish out free research information?
No doubt the Uni s internet links would be more suited to the posters contacting motor manufacturers sites for this? After all, who is going to be the beneficiary for this.

hello, How much power is required?
It maybe that a coreless motor might do the job. Servo motors also have to do some quick reversing. I have some small motors where only a very light armature (wire only) spins around outside the magnet, i.e. it spins on after the power is removed but has low inertia and reverses quickly.
But brushless looks like the way to go for high power and the high rpm.
