Title: Receiver set up
Post by: scottyt on October 30, 2010, 02:07:46 am
Hi All,
I have a Spektrum DX6i and a AR6100e receiver,the receiver will not
operate through the esc only from a seperate battery pack.
Could you tell me the best way to set up so that i can get a decent
run time, and what would be the maximum size of the battery,i will
be useing 6 volt gell batery as my main power supply.
If some one could tell me how to do this (with diagram if possible)
i would be most gratefull.

Thanks Scotty.

Scotty, no reason why it shouldn't work.
Am assuming you have the Rx bound to the Tx OK first off, then make sure the ESC is plugged correctly to the Rx, the (orange) signal wire from the ESC on the 'inside' of the Spektrum Rx. If it's not a new ESC (already in the boat), it may have been run with a battery pack, in which case you would see that one of the wires was cut (not the signal obviously) to remove the BEC supply.
If none of the above resolve the problem, I would suggest there is a problem with one of the items, have you got other pieces/boats to try a swap around check?

Not all ESCs come with BEC's. If you main power supply is a 6v Pb I would not be wanting to be running the RX off a Bec anyway, they are fine with 7.2v or more. Lead acid battiery voltages drop sharply when under load and pop back up when the load is removed.
Is you go down the separate battery for the RX route, then there is no maximum size to worry about as long as it is a 4.8v or 6v battery pack.

4 AA cells should outlast the drive battery, and will be safe whatever you plug in.  While RC components were designed around a 6 volt standard, some of the modern goodies that you can plug in use components with a maximum of 5 volts, a 6 volt supply will kill them.  Its one of those cases here reading the instructions is vital.

Connect he -ve pin to the signal pin on the battery port on the RX. You can use an old servo lead and connect the appropriate wires to make a bind plug.
