Title: Graupner Pegasus III
Post by: Martin (Admin) on November 01, 2010, 07:59:22 pm
I've been building this for.... quite some time.
 ... not the most well thought out, best quality, most comprehensive kit I've ever attempted... quite disappointing for a Graupner kit.  {:-{

A few photos of the build so far....

Of the many, many, many........ many problems I've encountered are the window templates for the upper cabin (wheelhouse?), there aren't any! I'm looking for ideas how to do this. I'm guessing I should be able to produce a flat sheet template but so far my efforts have proved ineffective. The quarter windows have compound curves that have totally defeated my efforts to reproduce them.

Have you tried a thin ABS or acrylic plate and a heat gun? Heat the plate and hold it in position.

Alternatively, make a master that fits nice and snug and vacuum form http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1306908&highlight=vacuum+form (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1306908&highlight=vacuum+form)

Martin make a templat in two halves then stick it together, then use Lexan for the window, eather use a heat gun or put in the oven till it starts to droop a bit wear gloves and lay it in place have some cold water in a squirter to cool the superstructure if it starts to get warm as  soon as you are happy hold in place and cool it down , if it is wrong you can re heat and try again,Acrylic can be a bit prone to crack in tight curves, when Paul did his Huntsman Screen he found that it bent without cracking and was strong afterwards as opposed to the perspex he had tried that just kept cracking and he was laying it over a mould.

er how is the, er Paint  :}

Not bad circlip, now you've pointed it out, very clever!

I'll have another go at the Pegasus' windows tonight.
 The paint job, well that's another matter, we don't allow searing (actual or implied) but #*&%$£#!;}{# >>:-( >:-o <:(

 Re: Circlips "Ping"... There goes another one. I wonder how many hours I've spent on my hands and knees fruitlessly looking for petulant circlips!  >:-o

A lovely looking boat Martin but NOT for me this one then! I would of thought because of the shape the windows that they would have been supplied as a vac form moulding in the kit - or are you expected to part scratch build?
       What you've achieved so far looks the bizz, keep it going Mart', I do love your repetoire when your annoyed.  {-) {-)

     Kind regards, tony.

  Why??? You can always PM me?  Tried a magnet on a string?? saves bending, bending down not the problem, it's getting back up.

  Not surprised Graupner didn't supply windows as a vac form but would have expected them not to cut out the windows on the molding.

  Regards  Ian

 Edit, looks like they didn't cut them out, do you know anyone else with an untouched kit to take a "casting" off the window area??

Wow this is an old topic!

Sorry Surfer71, the kit was so poorly conceived and made construction very difficult, I gave up on it in the end and didn't finish it.   >:-o

Got lots of photos of the construction if you need them.
 It's the only kit I never finished.   <:(

The white LED lights are battery powered Christmas type - example from eBay or I bought some in Tesco after Christmas for a couple of pounds a strip

Google "micro led battery lights" or similar

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20-30-100-LED-Battery-Micro-Rice-Wire-Copper-Fairy-String-Lights-Party-white-rgb/322858118807?hash=item4b2bd7ee97:m:mzpgydY6B0IYfoTmZOGlNIw (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20-30-100-LED-Battery-Micro-Rice-Wire-Copper-Fairy-String-Lights-Party-white-rgb/322858118807?hash=item4b2bd7ee97:m:mzpgydY6B0IYfoTmZOGlNIw)

Nav lights are coloured LEDS

No idea of the paint colour under the red....
