Nice Job! :-))

Yes conversation at lake side can usually be quite interesting.
 When I had my Robbe Sea wolf, a bloke was chatting to me;
 "How much did it cost?"
 "About £400 all in."
"What will you do if you loose it?"
"AH! That's one of the challenges of model submarines, can you put £400 at the bottom of a lake AND get it back?!!"

My trafalgar went well today till my Tx battery went flat and I had to take the model home. The Akula is just awaiting a speedcontroller. Bill

I fancy building the U47 to go with my U2540 below, she's looking good Grimreaper. Would love Akula or big Typhoon but bit expensive! Looking forward to seeing some more photos soon, Dave.  :-))

I don't want to stray too far of topic, but how did you find the Seawolf? I'm thinking of trying to get one in the future as the are not too expensive for my tight budget.

Agreed, Typhoon is way too expensive. Got a 6ft Victor Class as well as the U2540. May invest in a WW2 battleship or 1.72 HMS Daring from Fleetscale. Dave. :)

This is what i'm interested in, i've seen a u-47 by robbe for £349, is yous about 1.7m long? sound like the same boat, nice to know you found it straight forward to put together as i'm not an expert on this stuff either. Did you have to have any special tools and did you get everything you needed in the kit? Thanks.

Kit is compleate except for radio batterys and ESC sub is a dynamic diver needs forward speed to dive  can be a bit of a bind ballancing because it dont fit in the bath kit is well presented instructions need to be read a couple of times to make sure you understand what is going on the hardest part is getting the long bolt correct this has to be spot on as it holds the bows and stern together making the boat waterproof you must get this correct also in the destructions it says this bold should be soldered which is realy not right by all acounts and tips off this site it should be soldered using plumbers solder and a blow torch (silver soldered??) to make the joint realy strong because if this fails underwater then your going for a swim I found that if the sub is ballanced to just deck awash then it dives much easier and at a much slower speed. If you get problems just drop me a PM or ask on here the guys are great for info and tips.

Thanks for the info mate, i'm half excited about the building of one and half bottling the idea. Will you be painting yours btw?
Some people colour them to look realistic and some to see them better under water. I've even seen leds on them to show them up.

silent running556 check here for dates of pool runs where you can see a variety of subs, and chat to the builders. may help you if you can get along to one.

If your running her in a pool, then you can paint it just about any colour you like and still be able to see it clearly. Its a brave captain who runs a sub at much deeper than periscope depth in a murky pond (unless it it is shallow or a purpose made boat pond like Orpington or Norwich where you know you will be able to wade in and recover should the worst happen.

Did anyone with a u47 or any u boat for that matter get flags with theirs or did you have to buy/make them yourself? Mine was made in Germany originally so i can undrstand why the flags may not have been produced. funny that they can be bought here though. :P

It is against the law in Germany to display a Swastika.
At boat shows they do display obliterated ones. (A bit like blotting out a face in photos.)

I also think Davy1 that it is illigal in this country to display a flag with the swastika on if its full size not to sure about model flags bearing the emblem though I have found on the www companys that produce them as to weather you would want to engage the wrath of a war vetran while out sailing ....................?? I never did put a flag on my U47 because I am a good guy realy and dont like upseting people and anyway my models cost a lot of money dont want em getting things thrown at em its bad enough when you get targets coming your way lol

found an interesting link on wiki

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika

not illigal to display in the U.K. or many countries, article is an interesting read in history and also on how the flag became what it was in the war and what it represents now

As far as im aware the swastika is banned in Germany and there is a prison term for those who wear it along with a few other countries, i know for a fact that German model kits are not allowed to produce the symbol to go with a German model ship or aircraft, what has been found those who wish an authentic level of detail work around the ban but creating a 'stencil' of sorts which would be faint lines of the symbol itself.

Here in the UK im not sure if its banned or not, but i would have thought though common decency that would stop you putting one on a model regardless if its part of the models heritage and authenticity.
Although i say that i do personally think that we could be a bit open minded about the use of that particular flag on models that would have shown it during the time period, but saying that Hitler designed the VW beetle and how many of them do we own! I personally haven't got a issues with seeing the flag on a model as it would be in the right context but i certainly wouldn't do it myself knowing what my grandparents went through.

But this could be said over a great many flags of the past but yet they are more excepted then the swastika, take the confederate flag for instance we all know what the most common use of that flag was for during the 1920- upwards of the persecution of 'afro american' people by extremists like the KKK until they accepted as equals but yet only last week the flag was displayed at a local show under the Gatling gun model someone was displaying, and even some modern films show the flag, take The Dukes Of Hazard' displayed full blown on the top of the car.
These flags are accepted as part of history and used in the right context should be allowed and not judged the person who's displaying it, rightly or wrongly.

I suppose its your choice to use it or not, as long as your not breaking the law

Take the Bismark for example it wouldn't be the Bismark really without the flag painted on the bow of the ship

I don't think there would be a problem if you used the German Naval ensign. Have a look at www.uboat.net

Hitler designed the VW beetle!

The Beetle was designed by Ferdinand Porsche.

Don't worry , if it had a white flag with markings on it originally then that's what it'll have now, i want it to look authentic. U-BOAT flags are white not red apparently. :-))

Two thoughts
The flag would only have been flown when entering or leaving harbour.
The swastika is far older than the third reich and has been an Indian symbol, in both directions, for centuries.

The Royal Navy has been told to take down its flag at times as the cross offends some people. People take it too seriously sometimes. admire the work taken to build these boats etc not any political attachments.
