Keeps cropping up Lou, roughen the tube surface and use an epoxy (Araldite) type adhesive. A slow setting one rather than the five minute type.

Just as an extra, if the hull IS ABS, the cements recommended by Graupner is UHU Hart or whatever the latest one is. Balsa cement or Plumbers pipe cement is good and cheap but these are solvents (Will MELT the plastic) so use carefully but are superb for glueing wood to ABS.

Re Circlips comment, I have read that the slower setting types are more waterproof than the fast ones.

My thanks to both of you,  must admit I was toying with the idea of the plumbers adhesive, think I might try it on some scrap to see how it works first.

I have used car body filler in all my models so far, with excellent results. As Circlip said, the hull and tube surfaces must be roughened to give whichever adhesive you decide to use, a key.

if your using car body filler , be careful as it gets hot as it sets , you dont want to distort or melt the hull ! id use the araldite and roughen up the surface first .

To put brass shaft tubes into a styrene hull I was advised to use 2-part (powder and liquid) UHU Plus acrylit. It worked superbly and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Very nice work, what timber have you used, very neat. I have used  flexy epoxy from http://www.ekmpowershop9.com/ekmps/shops/shop4glue/flex-epoxy-toughened-epoxy-resin-adhesive-glue-impact-resistant-black-plastic-metal-high-strength-273-p.asp   it is black in colour and is a bit slower drying to full strength than they say but I like it because it has some flex, so one bang will not crack or loosen it and will take vibration but it is black they also do flexi superglue.

I use a filler made by Septone, and I've not had a problem with heat from the filler curing, in fact, it barely gets warm. Araldite does a good job, but it can get warm while curing, too although not enough to distort plastic, in my experience.

      Hi Peter,

deck plate made from 3mm ply, all the rest from 1.5mm ply, main deck will be 1.5mm ply but with bracing below to give it extra strength.

Pugwash,

Just a thought, you might like to ask a moderator to change the topic from "help" to "Harbour Defence etc". O0 O0 O0

Comment has been made that people often find it difficult to find threads because of heading names. <:( <:( <:(

As commented very nice build, am looking forward to more photos as you progress.
