Title: RMS CARMANIA

I have just completed this one at 32'=1".     Completely scratchbuilt with a hull length of 21 inches - rather a bit too big for me!   This picture is taken from a low angle and I have superimposed a photograph of the sea over the bottom part.     Took two months and I am glad it is finished.    Not doing any more large passneger ships.   Going back to much smaller vessels.

Positive I really don't know how you carve things out at that scale - I have enough problems at 1/96
Its a real work or art.

Hi Geoff,
Works both ways I suppose.   Years ago when I worked at 8'=1" I found it cumbersome and inconvenient as well as time-consuming and expensive.      Even though the CARMANIA was at my normal scale of 32'=1", she was such a big ship that it made the hull 21 inches long.    It has been hard-going from the start because of the physical size and I will be glad to get back to smaller ships at the same scale.   I feel quite worn out by it all at present.     At the moment, my wife is painting the sea in the other room, so as far as I am concerned, it is all complete apart from maybe an hour fitting it in the sea and finishing off the display case.

Not my cup of tea but you get ultimate respect for creating such a thing with all that detail.... Yes this is envy you are seeing  :embarrassed:

Thanks, not my cup of tea either.   I like ships like this very much, but building it was very hard going as I found the 21-inch hull inconvenient to manoeuvre around my small work table withut damaging it.     Don't intend to make any more this big.      15,000 tons is about my limit for comfortable building, but this one was 19,524 tons.
Happiest with 8,000 to 10,000 thousand tons really.     Although at the moment I am building a 75-ton schooner at 16'=1" that has a hull length of 5 inches on the waterline.
