Title: Tissue.

Can some advise please.

I need to obtain some of the correct tissue to cover my Swordsman.

My problem is that when I last bought any kind of tissue was some 40 years ago to cover a glider. I have been on a couple of supplier's site and suddenly realise just how far things have moved on. No one seems to use the word 'tissue' any more and I find the number of coverings quite baffling.

If I knew what to ask for it would be a great help.

Hi Colin
What are you tring to cover and for what purpose?
If it bare wood , try some cheap J Cloths from the Poundshops and use Cellulose Dope, alright they are coloured, but you can see what you have covered.
It works for me and I use Balsa sheets

Hi Colin H, This finishing tissue is glass cloth of weight .............(17 gram/sq. mtr   or   0.6 oz/sq. yard). The resin to use with this tissue is: Epoxy Coating and Laminating Resin (use sparingly).  Good model shops sell these products sourced from different suppliers but these are the specs/grades of the materials.

My Swordsman is made of lite ply and I have been advised by Dave at action to use light weight paper tissue the same stuff I used to cover balsa planes with when I was a kid.

Thing is when I go on to suppliers sites they all seem to use a different description so I am getting a little confused but at my age what do I expect.

Hello, When you use tissue please ensure that correct side is uppermost, it is the surface with the glaze on it that gives the finish.  Nemesis

Be careful that the "tissue" isnt the fibreglass variety.  For your old fashioned paper tissue as used for model aircraft try some heavyweight tissue from www.freeflightsupplies.co.uk.  Mike Woodhouse can also provide cellulose dope both shrinking and for the lighter grades of balsa, non shrinking.  The tissue should be applied wet of course and it will shrink tight when dry, but then you knew this ...!  Use sanding sealer from same source.

Once again many thanks chaps I know it can be a bore going over the same subject for different people.

Think was I knew what I wanted but was struggling to find it until Dave pointed me in the right direction.

I was searching dealers sites for tissue should have been searching for modelspan, but thanks to Mayhem am now all sorted.
