For various reasons I wanted to convert her,all 36llb,(lots of Ballast) to electric & I wanted to try brushless.
Maiden voyage the other day & it's all I could hope for.
I have a 4 blade 70mm prop.
Motor:Turborix 850rpm/v D3648 RC 500 Helicopter Outrunner Brushless Motor
Escape: Hobbywing SEAKING 60A watercooled.
I run the whole lot on 6V.lead acid
Am currently waiting on a sound card from Model Solutions of Canada to give the "bling"
With the above sys I have stacks of power at low scale speeds.Of course, during trials I had to give her a "burst".....ever seen a tug leap up on a plane %%
well worth the effort.

ive just looked at a site that seels these motors.
it says 11.4 volts and not to run for more than 5 mins then 2 mins off !!!!
is it realy ok to run this on just 6 volts ? and for more than the recommended 5 mins ?
im asking as i like the look of these brushless motors

Running a motor at half its voltage reduces the power considerably, so the heat the motor has to dissipate is well within its limits. In a Heli application high power in low weight is required so no weight can be used for heat-sink and the cooling is non existent from prop wash therefore the duty cycle is reduced.

It looks to me as if the duty cycle was just for reliability testing, Keep it under 1000 Watts and that should be a continuous (off a battery/limited supply) rating
1000 watts at 14.4 volts is 70 amps, we are not going to reach that in a scale boat ok2
This motor would be wasted on anything less than a 60 mm prop in a tug.

I have a water cooled controller, I run a small electric motor to drive it...The setup I use has a 70mm prop, allup weight is about 35pounds..it's a 6V system, & has LOTS of Grunt..as a Tug should %%

Sounds like a real good set up
does running on 6 volts seem ok with the motor ?
would it not be better on 12 volt running finer pitch props for even more torque ?
i am asking has im not too up on the electric boats/tugs
