Hello
Thanks Peter for your welcoming message. As suggested, this is a message just to introduce myself as a new member - to what seems to me to be a really excellent group.

I found this web-site through a Google search on the subject of how monotube boilers are controlled – expecting to find info related to modern power stations. My searches took me to the messages posted in relation to the really impressive boat “Vital Byte” by FlashTwo. Until that point, I had never heard of microcontrollers and the messages describing the development of Vital Byte really impressed me and opened my eyes to their possibilities. Two aspects appeal to me. Firstly, what these devices can do and secondly, that the way they are used and programmed reminds me of interfacing a BBC computer to scientific instruments (which I enjoyed doing, in a very amateurish manner, numerous years back).  Having read a little about PIC chips and having bought a Pikit 3 programmer /debugger I am ready to start the learning process.

Eventually, in the distant future, I would like to install the boiler in a model of the R-class destroyer HMS Rigorous since I have a 3.5” Drummond lathe that was originally installed in that ship. However, I have no experience of building model boats. So joining this forum will hopefully allow me to get advice on and to discuss several topics.
Thanks for letting me join.

Regards
Mike
