Dear Martin,

This is Zachary from Florence, Arizona and I am interested in displaying my replica somewhere permanently. This is a replica of an actual recreational sportfishing boat that operates out of Point Loma Sportfishing in San Diego, California, the "New Lo-An". The actual boat has a 24 foot beam and measures 65 feet in length. My replica measures 65 inches long and 24 inches wide. I had handcrafted it with a jigsaw, then slowly assembling it together using several different types of wood, then applying resin, bondo, and wood putty. I am now in the final stages of painting along with more detail to complete. I also plan to preserve it with some type of spray to give it a nice protective coating and finish.

I submitted all these photos to the San Diego Maritime Museum in San Diego and also the Newport Nautical Museum in Newport Beach, California and neither would take it. Is there anything you can do for me or do you have a facility that you know of? Any ideas? I tried looking up on google.com and you were the closest resource I can find.

Bottom photo of the actual boat.

Looking forward to your reply.
 Thank you,
  Zachary E. K.

I handcrafted this replica of the sportfishing boat, "New Lo-An" that operates out of Point Loma Sportfishing in San Diego, California, USA.  The replica itself measures 65 inches in length and 24 inches in width, which represents the dimensions of the actual fishing boat- 65'X24'. (There is a photograph of the actual fishing vessel above to compare).  I used a jigsaw to handcraft it along with materials such as bondo, fiberglass resin jelly, fiberglass resin, wood putty, fiberglass mat, many coats of paint and primer.

On March 9th, I had displayed it at the Fred Hall show, a sportfishing, boating and hunting show in Long Beach, California, USA. I donated it to the United Anglers of Southern California, a non-profit organization that takes donations made to fund the current (MLPA) Marine Life Protection Act lawsuit. The lawsuit is based on pressurized tensions to close many areas to fishing in Southern California. The replica was appraised at $5,250.00 and will be used to fund the lawsuit.

The "New Lo-An", built in 1961 is owned and operated by Captain Markus Medak who has over 22 years of experience in the sportfishing industry.  From May through October, the boat offers overnight and 1 1/2 day trips starting at $185 per person up to $450 per person for a two day trip.  Yellowtail, Yellowfin Tuna, Bluefin Tuna, Albacore, Dorado and many other quality gamefish is common depending on the conditions of the ocean and the sea temperatures throughout the season. Boat departure time is between 6pm and 7pm, which allows travel time to start fishing at daylight at around 120-140 miles southwest of San Diego in the Mexican waters. You may contact Point Loma Sportfishing for reservations at (619) 223-1627 or log on to pointlomasportfishing.com for more information.
