Title: Has Anyone.
Post by: Mr Andy on January 17, 2011, 04:42:41 pm
Has anyone built a Springer a lot larger than they should be built?  And if so what or how did they sail? I did last year, she was 10'' wide and almost 18'' long, and took on the sailing charecteristics of a submarine, the two 700 turbos didn't even get a chance, anyway I cut a large chunk off the front and she now sports a proper bow.

Oh yes,this one is 26" long 12" wide,powered by 2 speed 600BB turbo motors,sails really well
Did have 700BB turbo's in and it did a wheelie, but battery ran out to quick.

My Egrete rhine pusher tug is 28inches long and 10 inches wide, its powered by the equivalent to twin 600's with 6:1 gear reduction boxes, driving 50mm korts. It sails a treat, yes, ok so cant outrun a sports boat, but its not got the bows designed for that, afterall, they rely on the bows on the forward barge its pushing to cut the waves. perhaps if you made a barge and tried that, you may be better impressed with your springer then.

Yes now is is a large pointy thing. Sail's very well when it works and still tries to bury her bow under water.
Added a picture, she has since been fitted with a plastic fender off a Dickie Harbour Tug, and had her fore deck raised ever so slightly.
