Post by: maclynne on January 31, 2011, 04:05:32 pm
Hi I am a new-be,I have come back to building after 32 years and every thing has changed,  I am building the 4' G/F, Could any one tell me the right combination for the running gear, The plans say a single motor,I have got a Torpedo 850 MFA.
I will be glad of any help or tips on building a scale running boat.
All the best, Mac.   {:-{

Ive got a 4ft one like you.Shes a hefty beast to get up on plane. There seems to be now where because of internal design to
fit big batteries. I use four 6v linked to give 12v. My vessal runs 3 mfa 850 motors. Fairly short run time. You may find that one 850
will not give you full potential of the model. I take the view that if something is to fast, then thats what a speed controllers for. If
to slow. Well back for a refit.  Happy sailing John.

There is a Video of the 4 ft Perkassa built by Stavros on one MMB 900 motor on 24 volts going absolutely manic.
On 2 of these motors on 12 volts the performance should be very good.

Yes theMMB motor does work well. I understand that Mark does not sell these motors now. But now supplied by Dave at Action.
A good way to avoid having to alter boat to three shafts. John

I must admit i was not impressed with the MMB 900, mine was very quick to overheat even with water and air cooling...

I have fitted three brushless to my latest build, Brave Borderer..

It appears that the GRP hull does not have so many bulkheads as my wooden version. Can you please tell me what size battery you
use? Also what motors?. Also what is run time? As may convert my boat. Thanks John.
