Title: Build Your Own Radio Controlled Yacht. Bryn Heveldt. Looks good

New to this. Just purchased book Build Your Own Radio Controlled Yacht: The Complete Step-by-step Modelling Guide by Bryn Heveldt. The book comes with full-size plans of hull, sails and rigging featuring the Racing Sparrow 750mm boat designed by New Zealander Bryn Heveldt. The book is presented in full colour throughout, using step-by-step photography and 3-dimensional illustrations. It explains all materials, tools and required skills and techniques. Only a simple toolset is required and the materials needed are minimal and cheap. Chapters include: Strip planking the hull, fibreglass strengthening, mold and casting lead keel ballast, electrics installation, spray painting and masking techniques, sail making, mast, rigging and tuning of sails. Got it from Amazon for 9.50 new. Not sure about the book never purchased or read it, but im an experienced sailer as it is so not sure a book will help me personally.. but it does sound interesting with some other basic skills and techniques depending on how accurate they are.

I have the Book, and what I can gather it seems pretty popular, Two of the boats shown in the book at the races are /were sailed by a couple who live in the Northwest.

Welcome aboard.

The Racing Sparrow is a good subject, and there is a least one thread on this boat on Mayhem.
If you are doing a build, we would love to see a build log. A build log is also a good place to ask questions if you get stuck, I know I do.

I am about to start my third hull after not being satisfied with my workmanship on th first two
(Too much filler = Too much weight)

Refurbed an old Victoria to keep me sailing.
First outing in a good breeze she sails almost hands off
Took this photo on my phone  and by the time I got back on the
transmitter she decided to put her bow under the concrete bank edge
and sheer the forestay deck fitting
End of sea trials  :(( :(( :((

Built mine over 2 years ago. Sails well. I thought the book, which I bought direct from NZ, was very informative and well produced. The illustrations were excellent. If I was to do it again I'd use 2 layers of fibreglass tissue rather than resin paste. JMO

I bought the book sometime ago. Its quite good, but lots of things are not explained well enough for the complete beginner..which the author implies are his target audience.
A planked boat maybe just too much for the complete beginner :((

I don't think I could have got my Victoria going well enough to maintain my interest without help from club mates...  :-))
