Hello everyone,
I am thinking of building a 1:48 working model of M33 or one of her earlier sisters. Does anyone know if there are any plans available for these vessels?
M33 is being/has been restored at Portsmouth. Does anyone know if they are 'modeler friendly' and have a contact point for them?
Thanks.
Chris.

Chris Sorry I can't help you will plans - can only suggest NMM for plans (not cheap) but I do have several photos from my visit in September
if that would be any use.

Models by Design have the semi kit for sale:

Not sure if the plan is included by Model Boats did an article by Paul Freshney (I think it was Paul if not apologies to whomever did the article and build) September 2006 onwards but it was built as M15 - the semi kit by Models by Design looks quite a nice piece of kit. I also have a number of pics your welcome to if you want copies sent.

Yes, M15 was Paul Freshney's build, and very nice too. M 15 had a different gun arrangement, the main armament was a hefty 9.2inch gun whereas M33 had two six inchers.

portsmouth could be freindly if you only wish to walk around the outside of the m33 , as long as you dont want to visit the other attractions , ie warrior , victory or go into the naval meseum you can walk around for free ! we often walk over for a cup of coffee ! !

Thanks for this. I had no idea that this hull was available. Must learn to use google better! Lots of old friends on that website. I recognise some ABCO hulls, I have Kyle Rhea on my shelf now and I see some of Darnell's subs too. A very useful site.
I was actually thinking of building the 9.2" gun version anyway - probably M21 as she was a steamer with the short gun. There are a couple of good photos of her in Ian Buxton's 'Big Gun Monitors'. So it will be 2.4Ghz set up: twin screw, lots of smoke and a working gun (up to a point!).
Now I will see if I can get the MB back issues and start the research project. Always a bit I enjoy. May even persuade the missus to come on a trip to Portsmouth.
Thanks everyone for the offer of photos. I would be very grateful for anything that anyone feels they can pass on.
Happy boating everyone. Spring can't be far off!

Chris,
You might also look at the WAK site for the recently released card model of M15 in 1:100 scale and the various pictures it gives of the finished model. It can be bought in UK at Marcle models or direct from WAK in Poland.

you could always drop the misus off at gunwharf at the shopping precinct , then go around the m33

Good idea. Might retire to one of the pubs around there after and then get her to drive home. :}

Martin why do people including many modelmakers always make the same mistake and show warships at sea flying the Union Jack -
this flag is only flown in harbour or when the ship is at anchor.

Sorry, but you need to get your facts correct - The Union Flag may be worn at Sea ONLY when a member of the Royal Family is aboard. Stipulated within Queens Regulations Royal Navy (QRRN's). As an Ex CPO Gunner I should know.

Hi Marc, I used to be involved with M33, before Hampshire County Council Museum Services came along with a Numpty and screwed it all up (Peter NUMPTY Lawton), I have somewhere hidden in my model files a copy of a drawing that Reg, one of the Old boys gave me and this was about a 1/96 scale M33 Drawing that he had done himself, he was a Tech Drawing specialist, I'll see what I can look out and give you a shout.
