Title: My first sinking!

Hi,
I just had my first sinking this morning, due to over enthusiastic driving, turning full speed into wake.

I have stripped and flushed the electronics with demin water.

is there anything else I should be doing?

Drive more carefully ::)

Wipe all the electrics down with Safety solvent ( switch cleaner, meths ).
Do your next battery charge out side of the boat.

Thanks for the tip, it looks like I just lost the receiver, everything else still works!  ;D

I would leave the Rx in the airing cupboard for at least 24 hours. It might yet pull through.

Yes good idea.
Open up the servos and receiver, remove the cases and let them dry out.
I had a case where everything looked dry but there was water in the bottom of the case  :P

yeah I opened everything up, left them in a warm place, and eventually even the tx started working again! woo hoo no loss! ;D

 For what it is worth when I get a new reciever I open it and smear both sides of the board with vaseline does help when you get a sinking bit late for you Boatmadman now but may be of use in the future. I always leave soaked items on the Arga over night and it is suprising how many recievers and servos have returned to life by the nex day.

Presumably the sinking was in fresh water - any tips if the gear gets a dunking in salt water ??

Wash it in freshwater immediately but you've less chance of getting it back as saltwater is both conductive and corrosive.

Thanks for that Colin, I feared that would be the case. I've just started sailing in a salt water lake and it certainly shows up the Chinese 'brass' screw eyes etc that have now gone rusty !!

I managed to get around 3 pints of sea water into my MTB hull the weekend before last: sloshing around all over the place.  JJC modules wet, RX wet, ESC's wet, plugs/connectors wet and motors too, all four of 'em!  Rinsed everything through with fresh water, left to dry naturally and I appear to have got away with it...we'll see though!

I hope this was a mistype "and eventually even the tx started working again! " or did you throw the Tx at the damned boat for sinking?

Mike they may be working but I would keep a very good eye on them as the salt water even though washed with freshwater can still cause a corrosive reaction and you may lose some if not all yet, I hope you are lucky and all stays well..

well, 2 months on, had the boat out again today and all is still well! (even the tx) ;)
Probably waiting to fail midlake!
