HI ARROW,boat on deck is a NZ TROW ALMA a free MMI plan, made as a footy,
 a 2ft versoin is on the slip , when i finish gardening work out :-))   LARRY....

No balsa plantation at the dump... er um recycling depot but it just so happens that I have been ordered/asked to take a bag of old clothing to said facility. Some of the colours look very "sail-like".  No jokes about drawers , that is the wood source not a fabric source. Just have to stay out of range of the CTV cameras while making my selection ! :embarrassed:

hi ARROW . mine was built of photo mount board then skinned with 1/64 ply , with deck of  coffee stirrers......LARRY..

Larry ,   That mounting board is expensive <:( and as for 64th ply....   sharp intake of breath, clutches chest %%  "Dae ye think am made `o money ?"  >>:-(  We need more pictures of your build please.

A good substitute for 64th ply is the cardboard from cornflake boxes, when I was at sea I used to build all kinds (30" Viking ship, 30" ,Medieval warship, 28" Zulu and a Fife 32") all Sailing vessels ...5 or 6 coats of varnish keep them W/T and they are suprising strong .I used to build freesailing ones for kids and some are sailling 30 years later
 I think I've got one in the loft if so I'll post a picture on this thread

Sorry I took so long Shes built of 64th ply and cornflake boxes 6 coats of varnish and shes lasted over 20 years (new thread Yachts & Sail R&D)

HI JIMMY,  we both sing from the same hymn sheet , mount board from picture mounters scrap bins glad to get rid of it.
    mm ply shop around its out there at the right price or delaminate junk furniture from skips and don't forget the good old coffee stirrers i have a puffer built of all the elements , and is water tight as a ducks ar........e    
  when you are on buget of £30 a month it makes you thrifty. ...... ;)LARRY..

Hi Larry,
Your one prolific builder, I just can't keep up. Isn't Jimmy's wee boat nice?
I haven't been able to get back to sort either the scow or the Black Rose. We moved house and I am way behind on my drawing up of some historic wooden boats for some historian and model friends. Desperately trying to catch up, as don't even have anything to sail on the pond at the moment. My daytime work just takes up to much time, roll on retirement. ( I wish, but a few years to go yet).
Love your Maltese as well.

Beleve me when you retire you will have even less time I used to work 3 for 2 (3 months on for 2 months off) I got more done in that 2 months than I do now in 6 months ...

I have allways had a junk box  ---old hoover tubes make good funnels, as do old felt tipped pen's, Bero felt tip caps make search lights, Aerosol tops make 18 century gun turrets and Barbette's, Staples knicked from the bridge staple gun make super rungs for steel ladders. the inserts from mastic tubes make fighting tops and the guide rollers from audio cassettes make the drum ends for winches ,it goes on and on.... Didn't have much aboard ship for model boats so you had to make do...A good imagination helps {:-{  O0  :-))  My Grandfather gave me a clasp knife for my 5th birthday and said now I could make my own model boats ...I've been doing it ever since

    HI KIWI /JIMMY, i removed netting from pool today, so while removed decided to give BLACK ROSE  a ballest test...
    with false keel attached it worked  :-))   while testing a breeze moved it across the pool .
    so must get to CLEVENDON soon.
    KIWI , enjoy your retirement i did not enjoy mine to start with i worked up to 73 then retired being a .
construction manager
  i miss the buzz and income , thats why i took up modeling to keep me sane, also makes use of my tools i am trained joiner,
  so keep designing those models small scale just right to fit the motor :-))

What is the overall length of your boat?.
How wide is it and how heavy?.
Is there Lead in the keel?.
Is the Hull made of Wood or Fibreglass?.

                  WIDTH, 5ins
                 WEIGHT,about 10Oz's
                  CONSRUCTION ,card mm ply skin deck coffee stirrers dowel and skewers for mast and booms.
                   SAILS , tailors scrim,

                     other bits scratch built from tat box
