Title: Making own life raft canisters in resin
Post by: gregk9 on May 02, 2011, 12:04:16 am
I have done a few searches for liferaft canisters for my "moorhen build", but have not really found anything suitable, so may have a go at creating my own in resin.

So, not having made anything like this before.

1/ What is the best/most suitable resin kit to use.

2/ whats the best stuff to create the mould from?

making the "master"is is not a problem, i can soon make that, but dont really fancy making 6 exactly teh same way, Plus if good enough, I may  find byuers for same item, if its good enough so to speak, so a possibility of making my money back on the purchase of the kit to start off with [hopefully].

I needed to make 80 for my model. In the end I used some 1:100 scale Robbe canisters which were the right length but too square for my liking so I used one to make lots of half  moulds in plasticine then glued them together.
Ali.

plans suggest 32 x 18mm.

but 28 x 15 is quite close, but at what price for 8?

Thats why im looking at making my own, the price of "quantity" can often outweight the cost of making your own.
