Title: Time to have a go
Post by: HawkEye on May 12, 2011, 07:47:10 pm
As I always seem to be few years behind on these sort of things I decided I'd better try one of the little tugs, so after reading the whole seaport section twice - perhaps three times I now own four customer return examples containing various bits and bobs, one of which I have stripped ready for the rebuild / refit to commence.
As for the other three I think they will be filed under pending  %) .

Currently waiting on locating a low drain 540 and prop shaft.

Thank you all for your build log's / photo's - emotive and  inspirational . :-))

I must admit Iv'e been temped more than once but I have so much on at the moment I think I am better finishing some current projects off first. One for the future maybe.

Doesn't have to be a modern conversion.

I like that one Richard. I was thinking I could convert one into a fleet tender. Not sure which one.

I found this picture. A possibility I think. Very much like Roadrunners.

Yellow tug is loosely based (due to size constrictions of parts) on an Admiralty tug.

If I was to do another one, i would be looking at a Berwick Tug built during 1951-2 similar to this...

The possibilities are endless. It would be good to get a load of them together to show what can be done to make a nice model out of a plasticy toy.

A quick google image search for "tugboat" brings up so many possible variations it's difficult to choose a particular look ,I must admit though there's a conversation in one of Martin's posts (I think) possibly by a German chap that has exquisite detailing, but is it really worth that amount of time on what is at the end of the day a toy boat ?.

I'm collecting all the bits before I start otherwise the kitchen table police will be on my case, at least these are small enough to pack away easily !.

Build photo's to follow - perhaps !
