Title: Which motor and esc
Post by: CF-FZG on May 12, 2011, 09:50:11 pm
Hi,

I have the plans for a 36" speed boat and it calls for a Speed 700, (yeah right - which one %).

It's designed to run on 2 x 6cell packs, (I assume in series), but after looking at various sites for the Speed 700 series, I'm none the wiser as to which one I need.
To summarise from the instructions;
Quote
With 12 good cells and speed-700 motor, an Octura X440 propeller should be a good place to start

Any suggestions welcome, and also which esc to suit, prefer one with reverse :-))

One other point - water cooling - woulkd it be required on this set up??

As you can tell, I'm new to boats, with aircraft there's several motor-calcs to guide you pretty close to what you need.

Hmm, looks like the 700 Turbo then as the 700 Race is only rated up to 8 cells.

That's the motor sorted then :-))

So what size esc to go for??  it must be able to handle 12 cells, (14.4v nominal), I know what the stall current of this motor is but it seems excessive to get an esc of that size, or is it??
