Roadrunner    O0 ...the old image appears to be Station Pier in Melbourne OZ.....it really hasn't changed all that much....  {-) {-) however the time frame is not correct for our British built carriers HMAS Sydney & HMAS Melbourne...were they not commissioned in 1948? & 55? :D ...

The vessel to the left clearly flying a White Ensign........but I am not sure of the signifince of the letter F  below the jackstaff

Anyway both of the above vessels were death traps with steam arrester gear & kilometers of steam pipes just under the wooden decks & lagged with unwrapped ASBESTOS  <*< ...... HMAS Melbourne was decommissioned just prior to me joining HMA Garden Island.........

I have very fond memories of my superior @ GID....the senior forman in weapons.......Bob Graham  :-)) ....sadly he died  <:( of asbestos related lung cancer ........he worked on the arrester gear for years .....sorry to get a little off track......... Derek

Hi
Probably HMS Implacable, HMS Venerable & HMS Indefatigable 1st to 3rd march 1946, Melbourne.

Try this link to more photos

they look like corsairs on one of them, seafires on another.

Hullo kiwi...... :-)) ...I think you have nominated the correct carriers & time frame.........they had much larger ordinance [guns] as displayed in the original posting by roadrunner  O0 ...... than the Majestic class....... Derek

How about F for HMS Formidable, she was on repatriation duties to Sydney until early 1946, however, she was apparently back in UK waters by March of that year...

One of them is the Indefatigable, have a photo of her arriving, believe they were repatriating P.O.W's back home.
